Bionic Commando Multiplayer Details

On June 3rd, 2008 in Uncategorized -

Most first or third person shooters feature a multiplayer mode of some kind. Generally they tend to be more or less the same. Games with more fantastic features such as slowing, stopping or reversing time often leave out multiplayer or alter the players powers due to the difficulty in integrating these features into a robust experience for more than one player. The developers of the upcoming Bionic Commando remake are taking a swing at it (pun intended).

Instead of just offering a variety of character skins and cobbling together some basic maps and game types, they’re putting some serious thought into it both in terms of gameplay and the setting. Instead of the cybernatically augmented hero of the game players will be clad in colored power suits, each of course with its own grappling arm. These suits are the prototype of the limb the main character features which allows the developers a bit of liberty with the controls and features.

There will of course be some standard game types: deathmatch and capture the flag modes will be featured along with hopefully some more creative ones. I would love to see a sort of race/king of the hill game type where the objective is to swing, climb and survive your way to the top of a structure and possibly once being there defending your perch from rivals. Team modes will allow some interesting strategy and abilities- forming chains to swing further and higher is possible. You’ll want to avoid swinging with wild abandon while yodeling your best Tarzan cry as there’ll be pitfalls and dropoffs from which there will be no return (except maybe respawning).
