E3 2008: Doom 4 to Feature Better Graphics Than Rage
Speaking to Maximum PC, id co-founder and software engineer John Carmack revealed that Doom 4 will be so detailed that it will appear to run on a “totally new game engine,” though it is being built on the studio’s new Rage engine.
The increase in graphical fidelity is attributed to the game being run at 30 frames per second as opposed to their open-world shooter Rage, which is set to run at 60fps across all platforms. Apparently, this allows id to throw “three times as much horsepower” at Doom 4.
“[Doom 4 is] going to be a 30Hz game,” he said. “It’s going to look like a totally new game engine on there, even though it’s going to be built on the four years of effort that we spent developing this generation of technology.”
More details on the company’s projects are expected at QuakeCon later this month.
