Prince of Persia Film Pushed Back to 2010
With the combined might of Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney behind the adaptation of the extremely successful Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time game, there’s some hope for a truly well crafted video game film for the first time in ages. Unfortunately its potential will remain just that forĀ a little while longer as Variety reports that the release date of the film will be pushed back from June 19th, 2009 to May 28th, 2010 (Memorial Day Weekend).
Ostensibly this is to give the post-production special effects team plenty of time to finish the massive amounts of visual effects needed to pull off the stylish action and supernatural elements of the game. While there’s likely some truth to this fact as the movie will need polished special effects to pull in the non-gamer crowd, some other theories have been posited as the true reason for delay. The sequel to the Transformers film, the aptly named Transformers 2 premieres June 26th 2009 and Disney is likely hoping to avoid having to compete with what will still likely be a blockbuster despite the complaints of some fans of the series. Now the film will be competing for box office attention with the fourth Shrek film, which will likely be pulling in a vastly different audience.
