Carmack on iPhone Development, Relationship With Apple

On August 3rd, 2008 in Uncategorized -

37275 id Software co-founder John Carmack took the stage at QuakeCon this year to talk about the studio’s games. However, after showing off some new footage of Rage and briefly mentioning Doom 4, Carmack went on to talk about iPhone game development, stating that they have “two different projects” in the works for the platform.

“Pure graphics wise, [the iPhone is] about equivalent to a Dreamcast, but if you were to compare it to a console, it’s pretty close to a previous generation console,” he said, adding that the phone has a lot more RAM than previous generation consoles.

Carmack also talked about his relationship with Apple as a company, noting that they “make nice” when they need him, but that he makes their “shit list” when he speaks honestly about the company.
