EA: "Bad Licensed Games Holding Industry Back"

August 5th, 2008

ea-logo Speaking out on a matter which his own company is liable of, EA CEO John Riccitiello claimed that “crappy licensed games” are holding the industry back.

“I think what redeems our industry is quality and I think we take a step back every time we take a license and exploit it with a crappy game–that’s not what we’re about,” he said. “We’ve been there, most of our competitors are there or have been there. That’s not what we do. We’re not really after that market.”

He admits that EA was once abusing licenses with a Jurassic Park-themed fighting game and a James Bond racing game, but that the company is no longer “in the business of exploiting other people’s licenses with bad quality games.”

It can be noted that subpar games such as Batman Begins, Catwoman and Superman Returns were all developed and published by EA.
