NCSoft Cuts Jobs from Austin Studio

August 14th, 2008

Austin-based developers are in for a rough month, as NCSoft has let go of 21 employees from its Austin, Texas development studio. This move comes right after Midway revealed that it has cut a major portion of its workforce at its Austin studio.

The company explained that the layoffs were related to positions focused on unannounced and prototype products. “We are announcing that 21 positions are being eliminated in the Austin office of NCsoft in the area of product development,” a company spokesperson said. “Primarily this is related to products which we have not previously announced and were in prototype phases.”

They have also cut some positions from the Dungeon Runners team, having decided not to port it to other platforms at the time. NCSoft has not been doing well recently as their operating profit took a sharp 60% fall this year.
