Fallout 3 Changes Not Only For Australia
When Bethesda submitted Fallout 3 to the Australian ratings board they ran into a wall. The game was refused classification due to a link with ‘real world drug use’. Not only were there visual representations of various drugs as syringes, pill bottles, powders and the like but there were even some real-world drugs included. Morphine allowed a character to temporarily ignore the effects of crippled limbs in combat. It was this real-world connection that got the game banned down under. With such minor impediments the game was quite easily altered to be acceptable.
While one might expect that the altered version would be limited to Australia as that’s the only country where the game has run into problems so far, Bethesda has decided to avoid possible further problems by releasing the version edited for Australia in all territories. Not surprising given that Bethesda expressed frustration at the difficulties of inconsistent international censorship rules.
