Max Payne Producer Aiming For Duke Nukem Film

September 9th, 2008

Fresh from working on the film adaptation of the tongue-in-cheek film noir/action title Max Payne (as a producer), Scott Faye has already partnered up with 3D Realms to get a film adaptation of Duke Nukem underway. The character seems ripe for an over-the-top action flick with the healthy dose of comedy the series was always known for.

“With the two new games coming out based on Duke Nukem, I’m working at establishing a Duke film scenario that will compel a studio to finance a feature version. Certainly, there’s a large audience that knows and loves this character,” says Faye. While yes there is quite a body of gamers who recognize the name, many of those are likely in the 20-30+ range given that the original Duke Nukem titles were pixellated 2D platformers. 3D Realms is likely hoping that success of a Duke Nukem film will drive success of the games and vice versa.

Given the rather impressive visual style of the Max Payne film it seems that if Faye is as truly devoted to crafting an effective Duke Nukem product, it could be that we’ll see a series of actually good video game films. The only question is this: who’s gonna play Duke?
