Red Alert 3 DRM "Lenient"

red-alert-3-land-units-screenshot-big EA and other publishers have been lambasted for including “draconian” DRM in their games. However, the company seems to have learned from its mistakes, as Chris Corry, producer of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, revealed that the copy protection in the game will be “more lenient” than other titles.

“In the case of Red Alert 3 (and all PC titles coming out of EA), we will use SecuROM,” said Corry, referring to a brand of DRM technology used in previous EA LA projects. He notes that the game disc will not be required to launch the game; up to five installations will be allowed after which users will have to contact EA customer service.

He also took some time to offer his opinion on the DRM issue.

“I think it would be a shame if people decided to not play a great game simply because it came with DRM, but I understand that this is a very personal decision for many of you and I respect that,” adding, “I’m a lot less respectful of those people who take the position that they will illegally download a game simply because it has DRM.”

Red Alert 3 is set for release on PC and Xbox 360 next month.
