Ubisoft has recently released a press statement pulling the covers off of their all new RTS, R.U.S.E. This won’t be your run of the mill RTS as Ubisoft promises it will have a “twist that will thrill gamers”.

But what’s this twist? Well, the press release says that players will be able to “bluff their enemies to lead their nation to victory” utilizing tactics never before seen in an RTS.

It seems that Ubisoft is really focusing on the different angles included in the game, thanks to the IRISZOOM Engine, as the press release frequently references the fact.

Ubisoft’s R.U.S.E is expected for the Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 sometime this year, or next.

Bigfoot Networks’ original Killer NIC network card for gamers never got off the ground the way it was supposed to do. Despite giving some performance increases in certain multiplayer games, the price was far too high for the average gamer.

The company has announced a new card at GDC, the Killer Xeno card. The new card has been updated to PCI Express, features more memory, an updated processor and a dedicated audio chip for in-game voice chat. The company also announced a deal with Alienware, which will become the first OEM to ship the card in their gaming rigs.

The Killer Xeno will come in two flavors, one with 256 MB of memory and one with 128 MB, retailing at $179.99 and $129.99, respectively.

CryTek is revealing a lot more details and demoing the new CryEngine 3 to developers at GDC, and the company has also released a new trailer, showcasing what the engine can do. Despite looking a lot like the old CryEngine 2 (which still pushes high-end PCs to the limit), the new engine looks to have some updates as well, both to graphics and physics.

Right after Microsoft announced new updates to their Games for Windows Live platform, Valve had a few things to say about its own platform, Steam. Valve said in a press release that much of the “new” Games for Windows Live features are already available on Steam, adding that they’re always looking for “new ways to make PC games easier to create and better for customers to experience” on Steam.

Steam is one of the most popular digital distribution game services in the world, ahead of Games for Windows Live and EA’s Link in both market share and technology.

Microsoft’s failing and much criticized game service, Games for Windows Live, will be receiving new features in the future. Microsoft revealed at GDC that the service will feature cloud computing, which will allow gamers to access their content from anywhere. Other features include new APIs to developers and better DRM/piracy protection.

Games for Windows Live has been criticized in the past for being too draconian and too limiting in comparison to rival services like Valve’s Steam.

Rumor has it that Epic will announce new Gears of War single player content at GDC later this week. The new add-on, supposedly called “The Dark Corners”, is due sometime next month, as revealed on a new advertisement poster.

[Update] Translation of the poster indicates that this is another (multiplayer) map-pack for Gears 2, and not a singleplayer add-on. We’ll have to wait and see what Epic says.

One of the strangest games I may have ever seen on Armor Games comes to me in the form of Music Catch 2,  one of the newest titles to show up.

Essentially, a flood of musical notes will flood out of a scale out into a blank black field.  You will then control a small sphere to collect the notes.  Yellow notes serve as multipliers, increasing your score for each note collected.  Red notes reduce your multiplier, and purple notes act as temporary vacuums, sucking every note except the red notes into your sphere.  And when there are hundreds of notes on the field, the action can get pretty frantic.  And yet, often playing in the background is the quietest, most gentle sort of classical / new age music that you’ve ever heard.  It’s soothing and yet hyperkinetic all at the same time, and this dichotomy is the kind of stuff that’ll bend your mind in all sorts of preposterous angles if you’ll allow such to happen.

Fun?  Yes, in its way.  The collection of notes and the avoidance of red notes is fast and frantic.  And the music is calming and gentle, the kind of thing you’d like to take into a hot bath.  So if you can adapt to this strange mix of conditions, then you’ll love Music Catch 2.
