New PS3 2.70 Firmware Update Adds Chat, Video Backup
And yet another firmware update for the PS3 has been released by Sony, upgrading it to 2.70.
The highlight of the update comes in the form of the long-overdue text chat. Users can now chat in three chat rooms at once, with up to sixteen people per room. There’s also a new copy and paste feature that works in both the browser and chat rooms.
Gamers can now also backup videos from the PlayStation Store to external devices and also play videos purchased for a PSP on the PS3. There’s also a dynamic normalizer that can keep music volume consistent across songs, and an “internet search” option that will pull up information about an installed or inserted game.
