Have you ever wanted to play a game based in the Warhammer universe described as “an ultra violent team sport”? Well then, you are in luck as Cyanide has recently launched a website along with a beta signup page for their upcoming game Blood Bowl.

Blood Bowl is based on a popular board game, which shares the same name, in which you pit Orcs, Elves, Dwarves and every other mythical creature you can think of against one another in a football-esque blood fest.

Interested? Head to the game’s official website, here, and sign up for the trial.

Oh, Vin Diesel–you’d cash in on just about anything, wouldn’t you?  In all seriousness, though, I’ve got a lot of respect for the guy. He’s a halfway decent actor, most of the time, and I can’t help but find it interesting that Vin Diesel has once again defied standard conventions.  We’ve all seen game-to-movie translations, and we’ve all seen the converse, movie-to-game translations.  We’ve even seen some movies that we KNEW would eventually be games, and vice versa.  But this may be the first time I’ve seen a game that looks for all the world like it was SPECIFICALLY INTENDED to be converted into a movie, and probably starring its lead voice actor.

The game in question is called Wheelman, and it’s all about Vin Diesel, who this time appears as a guy named Milo, who works for a group called the Agency.  Milo’s specialty is driving really fast and really recklessly, which makes him an excellent resource for those who need quick getaways and to do so while evading pursuit.  And since Milo’s not working for celebrities, his talents seem tailor-made for the criminal element.  Thus, Milo finds himself working for the criminal element in Barcelona, Spain…and you’ll have to do a lot of wild driving, recovering stolen cars, making friends and influencing people, and a whole slew of other things just to keep yourself from getting shot by the various criminals you both work for and work against.  Seems Barcelona has a LOT of criminal factions, and when you help one, you hinder the other, and these are not guys who enjoy being hindered.

The best part is, after looking up a little information about it, this is indeed the case.  Vin Diesel will be reprising his role as Milo in the film adaptation, which was originally slated to be released alongside the game, but since I’m talking about the game and have only just heard of the movie, this doesn’t seem to be the case.  Unless, of course, you count Fast and Furious, but I don’t.

The game itself, meanwhile, is fun enough to play.  It’s one gigantic adrenaline rush that really took me by surprise.  It is a very faithful capture, at least as far as I can tell without actually instigating a high-speed police chase myself, of the way it feels to drive down the streets of Barcelona at a hundred-plus miles per hour while being followed by the cops and taking time out, occasionally, to slam into them.  Yes, it’s a great deal of surprising fun to drive through buildings, or to make a preposterous jump from a six-story office window, or pull PIT (pursuit intervention tactics) maneuvers on cops.  But let’s face facts, folks—at the end of the day, this is a driving game, only this and really nothing more.  Surprising fun it may be, but surprising fun for how long?  There’s the million dollar question.

Much like NASCAR, it’s just “go fast and turn left”, though occasionally, in Wheelman, you will be called upon to turn RIGHT.  There are different types of missions, of course, but they’ll mostly be accomplished behind the wheel or occasionally handlebars.  On very rare occasions you will be permitted to LEAVE THE CAR.  So if you’re into driving games, then this one will definitely blow your mind with the addition of an actual plot.  Those who hate driving games, however, will find absolutely nothing to like here.

Just as previously reported, the trial for Crysis Wars has officially went live today. The will will run until April 17th and will allow players to play both online multiplayer along with LAN multiplayer.

That’s not all as Crytek has went ahead and announced the entrance of Crysis Maximum Edition marketed towards latecomers on the Crysis scene, hitting May 5th. Included in the Maximum Edition is Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Crysis Wars priced at an honest $39.99.

Honestly though, Crytek, will all of your games have titles that are just variations of “Crysis“?

You can get more information on the Crysis Wars trial, here.

If you would have told me, as little as a week ago, that there was a way to make a crossword puzzle into a serious action-packed battle royale, I would have thought you were on something.  Seriously–the very idea is just lunatic.  But then I downloaded Merv Griffin’s Crosswords from Xbox Live Arcade, and I discovered that even a crossword puzzle can be jacked up and run at horrific speeds.

At first, you’ll be playing against one opponent, computer controlled or with another person.  You’ll be filling in answers on a giant crossword puzzle, and trying to do so before your opponent can.  Yes, it’s like a timed crossword puzzle.  Things get REALLY wild when so-called “spoilers” are introduced who are vying for your place in the action.  See, each CONTESTANT doesn’t really win anything.  If you answer a thousand-dollar question, you personally don’t get that money–your PODIUM does.  Whoever’s in control of the winning podium at the end of the game wins whatever’s attached to that podium, and this is where the spoilers step in.  If they answer a question before you do, they can take control of your podium away, and carry on as if they’d been winning all along.

I don’t know how many times, my first play through, I lost and regained control of podiums.  I’ve lost count.  But what really got me was that I was having a blast playing a game made by the guy who made Wheel of Fortune.  It’s hard to believe, but no matter how strange it seems, there’s no denying that it’s just plain fun.

EA has recently revealed the cover art for the upcoming Wii Motion Plus touting Grand Slam Tennis.

If you follow tennis, or have some knowledge in the field, you’ll recognize John McEnroe, Roger Federer and Serena Williams, three of the most prominent names in tennis.

Serena Williams herself expresses her enthusiasm for being picked:

“It’s very exciting to be on the cover of EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis. This game not only shows EA’s enthusiasm for tennis but for also women’s tennis. I know from experience how tough and gratifying it is to win all four Grand Slams so I hope people will enjoy the Grand Slam experience that is offered in this game.”

Grand Slam Tennis is currently under development by EA Canada and is slated to hit shelves for the Wii on June 18th.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata was recently quoted as saying “The Wii is in the most unhealthy condition since it hit the Japanese market” after the announcement that the PS3 outsold the Wii for the first time in 14 months. He then went on to say, “The current condition in the Japanese market is not the one we want.”

So that means a price-cut would be in line, correct? Nope, when questioned about a price-cut Iwata responded with “A price cut in a difficult economy cannot really excite the market and drive up sales. As of now I really don’t think that a price cut is a good option for us.”

Could this be the end of the Wii dynasty? Or perhaps Japanese consumers are awaiting titles like Wii Sports Resort. Whatever the case, I’m sure Nintendo could wait it out considering the success of their recently launched Nintendo DSi console.

Ubisoft has recently announced that the Rayman-spinoff will be getting a standalone title on Wii called Rabbids Go Home this holiday season.

Don’t go thinking that just because it’s a Wii title all you’ll be getting is a bunch of mini-games, oh no, Ubisoft made it a priority to point out that Rabbids Go Home is a comedy-adventure.

You can read more about the game in the short press release below:

UBISOFT® SAYS RABBIDS GO HOME

Raving Rabbids Break Out with First Standalone Title

SAN FRANCISCO – April 9, 2009 – Today Ubisoft announced that the Rabbids will receive their own standalone brand with the Holiday 2009 release of the comedy-adventure Rabbids Go Home. Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the team behind Beyond Good & Evil®, Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie and the original Rayman Raving Rabbids®, the game will benefit from a new engine designed specifically for the Wii(TM) home video game system from Nintendo, offering the Rabbids a hilarious adventure in a brand new universe.

The Rabbids are already beloved the world over, selling 6.5 million copies of their raving adventures and starring in their own series of videos that have kept web surfers laughing for years.  Moving up to top billing with their own brand of games was a logical next step and fans will now be able to enjoy the fun in this humorous adventure game where the Rabbids unleash their insanity onto the human world as they attempt to return to their Rabbid home.

Halo 3-heads better boot up their Xbox 360 because it was recently announced that the Mythic Map Pack has officially hit Xbox Live for all to download.

Clocking in at 328.15MB the Mythic Map Pack will net you 3 new map back including Assembly, Orbital, and the all new Forge oriented map, Sandbox for just 800 Microsoft Points.

The official description of the pack, thanks to Major Nelson, is as follows:

The long-awaited Mythic Map Pack drops into Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Investigate Orbital’s abandoned hallways – before it was evacuated, the Quito Space Tether was heralded as the “Civil Engineering Monument of the Millennium.” Witness Assembly, where Scarab hulls loom overhead, being decontaminated in preparation for the city-sized Lekgolo colonies that will breathe life into the massive metal husks. An excavation site surrounded by deadly Forerunner defenses, the mysteries of Sandbox are hidden high above, deep below, and right before your eyes. There are no refunds for this item. For more information, see www.xbox.com/live/accounts.

And if you’re wondering why some people got the chance to play this before its Xbox Live street date, it’s because these same maps were included with Halo Wars.
