Those animal-lovers at PETA are now invading the realm of World of Warcraft to launch their new propaganda campaign against Canadian seal hunters.
The campaign will apparently draw a parallel between the in-game slaughter of seals by Horde characters and the real-life hunting of seals in Canada.
"Thrall refused to ban the slaughter of seals, despite multiple requests from the Alliance to do so, because Orgrimmar stands to make a large profit from the fur," wrote PETA.
They will stage a violent assault on the game’s seal-populated Howling Fjord zone soon.
Seeing as how the game is so popular with the gaming crowd, it comes as no surprise that Sony and Team Ico’s Shadow of the Colossus is set to become a feature film.
However, the sad part is that it will be written by Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li scribe Justin Marks – that movie was so shitty that I wouldn’t touch it with a ten-foot pole. The Scorpion King and Dune remake producer Kevin Misher is onboard as producer.
It is being reported that some of the smaller characters from the game may be given more prominent roles in the movie, for example the men hunting the protagonist Wander.
Staying true to its previously vague April release estimate, publisher Warner Bros. today announced that the free “Toy Soldier” multiplayer maps for F.E.A.R. 2 will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 16. They also revealed details on two more pieces of upcoming DLC.
May will see the introduction of the second pack that brings more multiplayer maps. Additional single-player levels and multiplayer maps are due out this summer. No pricing was given for either DLC.
Also, they wouldn’t confirm if these DLC would come to PC. However, it is known that support for downloadable add-ons for the PC version is coming.
According to Team Xbox, Kohan developer TimeGate has filed suit against Paramount Digital Entertainment and Paramount Pictures over the title of its upcoming game Section 8.
The studio alleges that Paramount illegally used the game’s name for an “interactive web series.” They also point out that Paramount announced the web series just three days after cancelling a meeting to play the studio’s game.
Similar legal action was taken by the studio last year after ABC had used the name Section 8 for an upcoming sci-fi drama. TimeGate won, with ABC agreeing to change the name.
Section 8 is due out for release on PC and Xbox 360 later this year.
A teaser trailer for The Secret World, Funcom’s upcoming modern-day MMORPG, has been released, bringing to mind the fact that we all need flaming swords in our homes in case a monster decides to attack us.
More videos are expected soon from the developer. The game is in development for PC and Xbox 360, and has no definite release date.
It looks like Xirrus Inc., has finally solved the connectivity problems for its games as it has announced the deployment of their Wi-Fi Arrays to support GameTech International’s Traveler Club in the newly renovated Wandsworth Theater located in the United Kingdom. GameTech choose Xirrus to support their state-of-the-art electronic Bingo platform because only the Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays could the Wi-Fi-enabled Travelers in the 1,700 seat gaming hall.
“Bingo has become extremely popular around the world,” said Marc Fresia, Project Manager at GameTech International. “To meet this demand, we’ve taken our gaming applications to a whole new level with wireless bingo-daubing units called Travelers, allowing players to buy and load bingo packs through our wireless POS system as well as play Cash Line Bingo—speed bingo where customers redeem credit on the Traveler for more cards.”
“The success of our wireless bingo platform rests on the strength of our accompanying Wi-Fi network,” continued Marc. “As an example, we converted the 100,000 square foot Wandsworth Theater, located in the UK, into a 1,700 seat gaming hall currently supporting 200 wireless gaming devices for session-based bingo. The building was a challenge to cover with Wi-Fi because of the solid walls, strange nooks and crannies, and the 50-foot ceilings. We researched several Wi-Fi vendors, most being controller-based, but could not find a system that could handle the user density or give us the wireless availability we required. Our Wi-Fi network is the primary network connection for our high-end players, so having a device hang or lose a connection was not an option.”
A video-on-demand service was announced recently for the Nintendo Wii. It turns out, however, that this same service could be making its way onto the Nintendo DS.
Speaking to the Wallstreet Journal, president and CEO of Nintendo Satoru Iwata said that “If the Wii and the DS are connected, it should be possible to download video through the Wii and take it with you on the DS.”
The DS and Wii can already communicate in numerous ways, such as demo downloads and simultaenous game interaction.
“When the service begins, you’ll see how we’re going to do it differently in a Nintendo-like way,” he adds. “There are a lot of on-demand video services, so there’s no reason to do the same thing, so we’re going to do something different. We’ll start the service in Japan, and if it does well, we’d like to take it overseas.”
Nintendo has had more or less a successful launch of the DSi in all territories. The latest figures from UK retailers show that the DSi sold and impressive 92,000 units in two days when it was launched in the UK, outselling all other consoles, combined.
In comparison, the DSi sold 170,000 units during its first two days in Japan, which led to sales of half a million units in its first month. The sales figures for the US launch will be released at the end of the month, with the usual list from NPD.
The PSP is and has been losing to the DS (and the DS Lite, and now, the DSi) for a long time, and many agree that something new needs to happen — what many hope, a new PSP console, that can not only combat the new DSi, but also the iPhone and iPod touch.
The latest rumors suggest that Sony is working on a new PSP with dual thumb sticks that is rumored to be released at the end of this year. Some suggest this will be called the “PSP 2″, and will ditch the UMD drive, be slimmer, and feature a touch screen much like the iPhone and iPod touch.
