I can only imagine what their meeting must have been like to decide the name for this game, but well, they have finally done it – Activision has actually changed the name of a Guitar Hero game.
Previously known as Guitar Hero Greatest Hits, their upcoming greatest hits compilation title will be officially called Guitar Hero Smash Hits.
The game will feature 48 master tracks from previous games in the series. It is due for release this June on PS2, Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360.
Interplay is getting help from Bulgarian developer Masthead Studios who will be joining them to work on the publisher’s mysterious MMO codenamed Project V13, which is rumored to be a Fallout MMO.
The agreement sees Masthead co-developing the game with Interplay’s internal teams under their direction and control. It will also see Masthead implementing tools and technology created for Earthrise – a post-apocalyptic MMO due out later this year.
Interplay is yet to announce any solid details on Project V13, though it is known that Jason Anderson – one of the original Fallout’s original designers – had been working on the project before he left to work for inXile.
The internal Midway team responsible for the Mortal Kombat series is looking to leave the company, according to this Kotaku report.
The team, whose latest output was Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, is currently in talks with other publishers to relocate. Apparently, all this stems from Midway failing to pay out bonuses for meeting the game’s sales targets.
Midway representatives claim that the unsecured creditors committee is holding up the payments. The company recently announced that it plans on selling the franchise, though no further announcements were made.
The original creator of the Star Fox series and founder of Q-Games, Dylan Cuthbert, said in an interview with G4 that he is not interested in making a Star Fox game for the Wii. Cuthbert was responsible for both the original Star Fox and Star Fox Command.
In response to why there isn’t a Star Fox for the Wii, he said “The problem with that is that it’d be a big project, like 100 people on the staff. It’s just not something we really want to do. I’m sure someone will make it. Maybe they’ll go back to Namco.”
An actual flying Star Fox game is what has been missing from a Nintendo console for far too long. When asked about why Fox has stepped out of the Arwing, Cuthbert attributed it all to Shigeru Miyamoto. “I think that’s all Miyamoto. Whenever I speak to Miyamoto about Star Fox, he says it’s not meant to be just a flying, sci-fi shooting game. It’s meant to be anything we want to think up. But the core fans don’t want that, but Miyamoto doesn’t really care about that. He wants to make what he wants to make, so he just goes ahead and gets it done.”
In case you have tears in your eyes, don’t cry just yet; the creator hasn’t ruled the Wii out completely. He did say that he could consider developing a title taking advantage of the Motion Plus.

It was recently made known that Polyphony Digital, developer of the popular Gran Turismo franchise, has officially opened the first Gran Turismo Café in Japan.
Featured in the café is food, obviously, but other than that there are three “play booths” featuring Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. There’s no pictures of the actual establishment so all we have to go by is the above sketch.
Good food and a few races of Gran Turismo? Let’s hope these things come Stateside.
