And so, the last addition to the Fallout downloadable content block has emerged, and amazingly, it will change the way you play Fallout 3 forever.  It’s called Broken Steel, and what it’ll do to the game is create a series of changes that are vast and downright unnerving.

This time around, you’ll be able to resolve one of the most frustrating problems with Fallout 3—what happened AFTER you retake Project Purity.  You’ve just made the Capitol Wasteland a better place to live, and quite possibly killed yourself in the process.  Only now, even IF you were the one to take the poison pill yourself, you’ll manage to survive it and carry on the good fight, as our old buddy Three Dog would say.  And now, you’ll be assisting the Brotherhood of Steel (and not those Outcast putzes either—they got their chance in Operation: Anchorage and did they EVER screw it up!)  in three important overarching concepts.

1.    Help get the newly cleaned water out to the various ports and settlements of the Capitol Wasteland.

2.    Blast the godless heathen savage Super Mutants into insensate smoking oblivion, once and for all.

3.    While you’re at it, put paid to those miserable soulless heartless Fascisistic thugs known as The Enclave.

Sound like a plan to anyone else?  Oh yes.  Yes it does.

Considering how many times I’ve railed against first person shooters in these pages, you might well wonder how I live with the hypocrisy of loving Fallout 3, which is a first person shooter itself.  And if you were to ask me that, I’d look at you sorrowfully, shake my head with regret and tell you that Fallout 3 isn’t JUST a first person shooter.  It’s a first person ADVENTURE.  Most first person shooters like to focus on that last word at the cost of everything else, but it’s the rare ones like Fallout 3 that open up a world to you and let you run riot therein.  You can be a hero or a criminal in these games, and the sheer variety of things to do holds my interest with every step.

And indeed, Broken Steel will, as I’ve said, change the way you play Fallout 3.  One, the level cap has been lifted from level 20 to level 30.  Of course, there will also be a collection of new items for you to lay hands on, and you’ll have several new plot elements to tangle with as well.  The already deep, rich story of Fallout 3 gets nothing but enhancement from Broken Steel.

However, as good as this is—there are still some problems here. For those of you thinking the broken level cap will be an opportunity to catch up on those skills you missed, think again.  For some strange reason, the game will give you new skills and perks when you reach a new level.  I’m not terribly pleased about this, but I guess it could be worse.  And there are many folks who will discover, seemingly randomly, that they’re unable to even play the game in the first place—but for those people, it’s not even that much of a problem.  While you’ll miss out on the new items and new plot challenges, from what I understand the level cap will remain broken, allowing you to try out the new features.

As fond as I am of Fallout 3, I’m of the mind that the downloadable content so far has added spice to the original as opposed to really opening up game experiences.  Broken Steel, meanwhile, has done a solid job of opening the world up even further.  All I can say is, after six months of fantastic gaming, great work, Bethesda…and see you in Vegas.

Will Turn 10 and Microsoft just announce Forza 3 already? The game has been proved in development over a year ago, and recent leaks suggest that the game will be released later this year.

This time, the German version of Amazon, amazon.de, lists a game guide for Forza 3, and has a release date of September 30, which means you can pretty much count on the game being released at that date. Forza 3 will reportedly be on two discs, and feature over 400 cars and 100 tracks.

Developer/publisher Bethesda plans to reveal news of a “really big Wii game” any time soon, although it is uncertain whether Bethesda will develop or just publish the game.

Bethesda Europe managing director Sean Brennan said in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz;

“We’ve got a couple of other things in the pipeline, and it’s a format we’re really looking at with the right approach. We’re not going to establish a new range and call if ‘My Girly Game Range’ or whatever these other companies are doing, it’s so me-too and boring.”

Since Bethesda has been getting into the publishing game, and the fact they’re quite busy with Fallout 3, it is unlikely that the Wii game would be developer internally.

Role Playing Games (RPG) are a big hit and while we have tons of them around in the market, expect one big splurge from this latest from tri-ace, Sega in Resonance of Fate. Resonance of Fate will be the next big RPG from tri-Ace, Sega announced today, as the title is currently in development for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 . A release date sometime during spring 2010 is all we could get out of Sega, though the company did share a few details about the game itself.

Resonance of Fate will include highly stylized graphics and focus on “realistic gunplay” for its core gameplay mechanic. And speaking of mechanic, players will find themselves role-playing their way through a gritty, mechanized world that is ripe for supporting Hollywood-style action sequences.

With its focus on gunplay, Resonance of Fate will let players completely customize their weapons, presumably giving unique weapons for each of the game’s characters.

Seems like someone infiltrated the Valve compound — the latest Sniper update has mysteriously turned into a Spy update.

Yep, two new Spy unlocks have been revealed: the Dead Ringer Spy watch, which creates a fake body for enemies dumb enough to think that they’ve killed you.

The other unlock is the Cloak and Dagger spy watch. It’ll make the cloaked Spy regenerate when standing still, as opposed to running around and collecting metal. More details here.

Jeeze, the guys over at Criterion are really making haste to get every DLC pack they could think of for Burnout Paradise into consumer’s hands; this time it’s Big Surf Island.

There is no telling if the pack will introduce new cars like the previous packs but we do know that it will include 15 new events and 10 new online freeburn challenges. Criterion also hints that those looking to fully complete the game will want to find all 45 billboards scattered around the new island. Perhaps a new achievement?

According to Joystiq, Criterion says that Big Surf Island will feature a lot of “big air” when it hits. They also say that a full preview of the DLC pack is set to be revealed on May 28th.

Call of Duty: World at War‘s first map pack was nothing short of a huge success. So, it’s no surprise that Treyarch would produce a second map pack which is featured in the above video.

The video runs 8:34 and features the two maps Corrosion and Sub Pens being added to the pack. If you didn’t know, there’s also a new Nazi Zombie map entitled Shi No Numa being introduced.

I just wish the trailer showed said Nazi Zombie map, I mean it is my favorite feature in WaW. Futhermore, if you don’t have Call of Duty: World at War, now is the perfect time because Steam is offering the game for just $25.

It’s no secret that EA’s skate pretty much demolished the Tony Hawks Pro Skater series in both gameplay value and innovation. Activision, however, isn’t going to stand by the side lines and watch one of their cash cows go to waste.

Enter Tony Hawk Ride, featured in the above introductory video. As you can see, Neversoft is really attemping to up the ante on this one even focusing the entire game around a skateboard shaped peripheral.

Will this be enough to thwart EA’s efforts? Probably not, but we’ll have to see. Oh yeah, get mad at Activision, not me, for including virtual 0 minutes of gameplay footage in the trailer.
