After learning that Bethesda’s Pete Hines was so surprised at the sucess of the already released Fallout 3 DLC, it’s no secret that they would do what any company would and release another pack.

This time it’s Point Lookout which we heard briefly about last month when Bethesda was pondering releasing Fallout 3 DLC across multiple platforms. Point Lookout looks to be centered mostly in what some would call the boondocks as hillbillies and broken down cabins are plentiful.

As stated at the end of the trailer, Fallout 3‘s Point Lookout will be released on June 23rd.

Bethesda is wasting no time getting their two newest downloadable content packs for Fallout 3 underway. At E3 they’ve showcased a trailer that gives you a first look at Point Lookout, the next content pack to be released and it looks pretty impressive. It seems like you arrive on location via a boat or other conveyance and the overall landscape and atmosphere is very different than the rest of the Capital Wasteland.

If you can believe it, things in Point Lookout look even more gloomy and miserable than anywhere else. It seems life has continued in this swampy corner of the world and the trailer gives a sense of the sort of inbred mutated horror in films like The Hills Have Eyes. They seem to be going for a more tense, suspense driven experience with this content pack.

The trailer doesn’t seem to show any of the new equipment or weapons, but there’s plenty of landscape to see, most impressive is a seemingly abandoned mansion covered over with vines.

Microsoft let us know during last year’s E3 that a South Park title woud be coming to their Xbox Live Arcade service. Well, E3 has come and is on its way out and still no South Park announcement which has fans of the popular TV series discouraged.

Luckily, Kotaku managed to catch up with Microsoft exec John Schappert and put the question of why no South Park announcement during E3. He promptly responded with:

South Park actually is coming I think what you saw in briefing is that there was so much rapid-fire information that we just didn’t have time to cover anything.

He then when on to say that the game will in fact be out this year but failed to comment on any game play details.

So, there you have it, an Xbox Live Arcade South Park title is definitely coming and will be released this year.

Looking for a more tradition approach to the Mario series than Super Mario Galaxy 2? Well, look no further as New Super Mario Bros. Wii is exactly the game for you.

Also introduced yesterday during Nintendo’s E3 conference New Super Mario Bros. Wii will pit you and up to 3 other friends against levels similar to that found in the Super Mario Bros. games you grew up playing.

What more else is there to say? Is there a soul alive that doesn’t love playing the classic side scrolling Super Mario Bros. featured on the SNES? New Super Mario Bros. Wii is sure to be a hit when it drops this holiday season.

This is why many video games take place in fictionalized countries or worlds. Picture a game set in a near-future setting where an independent prison is run by mercenaries and scientists utilizing the facility for their own unethical experiments without any sort of oversight. This sounds pretty standard doesn’t it? Presumably the plot would then follow an inmate who escapes due to some unexpected side effect or incredible breakthrough and then fights his or her way out of the facility. Doesn’t sound like anything too objectionable right? Not when it’s set in a futuristic version of Guantanamo Bay, the prison where the US government has been holding suspected terrorists for years.

I admit that I’m generally not interested in the games that cause lots of controversy. Not out of any particular bias, just that A) I don’t like the Grand Theft Auto series and B) most other controversial games turn out to be a bit crap. This game though sounded pretty interesting and I’m sad to report that it’s been shelved indefinitely. Unfortunately conservatives got wind of the game’s title and assumed that the game would involve detainees or terrorists getting their revenge against American Soldiers.

Rush Limbaugh attacked the game on his radio show and somehow bloggers and columnists inferred that since former detainee Moazzam Begg had a financial stake in the game he was going to be the main character and that the game was going to be strongly anti-American. T-Enterprise, the studio behind the game has insisted that they have no ties to terrorism and are ceasing work on the title, likely in part because when contacted for a comment on the game Microsoft said they hadn’t heard of the game before, meaning that T-Enterprise hadn’t begun getting the licensing they needed in order to release the game on the Xbox 360. With all this controversy it’s not likely that they would now either.

Though many have decried Nintendo’s Wii as a mere toy or gimmick with its motion sensing controller the fact that both Microsoft and Sony unveiled their own motion-sensing devices at E3 means that at least in some facet a more hands-on style of gaming is here to stay.

Nintendo is once again changing the industry and pushing things in a new direction, but they’re still showing their love for those of us who cling to older, more simple styles of game play. Along with Super Mario Galaxy 2 they’ve unveiled another Mario game, one that allows players to do something rather unusual: play together.

In theory many of the Mario games have been two player, but not in a true cooperative sense. You’d simply take turns going through levels, sitting back and watching when it wasn’t your turn. New Super Mario Bros. Wii as it’s called changes all that. Now you and up to three friends can be jumping, smashing and stomping on screen simultaneously. Two players will control the plumber duo of Mario and Luigi with the other two playing as Toads.

Things won’t be all fun and games though, because at the end of every level the players are ranked by number of coins collected, their score and how many enemies they defeated so as you can imagine it’ll be possible to take a more aggressive approach. Players can pick each other up to save them from danger or hurl them into a nearby bottomless pit. In certain portions of the game you’ll use your Wiimote’s motion controls to manipulate the environment, which could certainly be used to hinder other players.

As always there’ll be power-ups to help you including a propeller suit which allows you to fly with a flick of the wiimote and Mario will be able to turn into Penguin Mario, which will probably offer some much needed traction on the annoying ice levels. Yoshi will of course be coming back and all four characters can ride one, but watch out- competitive players can swallow their teammates as easily as enemies. The game will be out for the holidays this year.

Soul Calibur has an ever-growing stable of characters each with their own back story, weapon and fighting style. Whether you prefer the immense and evil Nightmare or the ridiculous Elvis-esque hairstyle of Maxi, there’s someone that’s bound to appeal to you. Yet one of the most enjoyable parts of the series has often been the special guest characters.

Soul Calibur 2 had three different characters depending on your console. Soul Calibur 4 brings in characters from the Star Wars universe, allowing gamers to jump around their opponents as everyone’s favorite jedi muppet. As the first game in the series coming to handhelds, Broken Destiny has a hefty pedigree to live up to and it’s bringing a heavy hitter to the roster, both in terms of sheer power and appeal.

Sony’s handheld will feature a playable character from the company’s own stable of characters and who better to square off against dozens of brutal warriors than Kratos, the antihero of the God of War series. Unfortunately he wasn’t a selectable character for the demo at E3 so we don’t have any shots of him in action yet.

In a recent roundtable discussion at E3 with Nintendo legend Shegeru Miyamoto, the master revealed — and confirmed — that a new Zelda Wii game is in development and will be released in 2010. Miyamoto also added that the game would definitely use the new Wii Motion Plus accessory, and possibly require it, should it become popular. He also mentioned that he wanted to showcase the game at E3 this year, however, the development team felt that their resources would be spent better making the actual game than a demo for E3.
