Fans of the popular Serious Sam franchise that first made its debut on the PC back in 2002 will be happy to hear that Croteam has announced a forthcoming XBLA version of the game.

Appropriately entitled Serious Sam HD, this port will apparently be a remastered version of the original title, The First Encounter. However it will include 4-player online-cop a feature that was absent from the original release.

You’ll be able to get Serious Sam HD for the XBLA towards the end of this summer for 1,200 Microsoft Points.

We haven’t heard much about Tim Schafer’s Brutal Legend for a while now but it looks like EA has gone ahead and decided to release the above box art for said game.

Those looking to play the rock-inspiried action-adventure Brutal Legend will be able to get their hands on the Double Fine Productions developed game on October 13th for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Sure, Sony gave us a pretty good glimpse of what to expect when the Playstation Motion Controller inevitably drops back at E3 but was it enough information? I didn’t think so.

Luckily, Sony has announced that they will again put the new motion controller on display neext month during the Develop Conference which runs from July 14-16 and takes place in Brighton, UK.

Don’t fret, we’ll keep you posted.

Now, you may be asking yourself at this very moment why I would compare a purely nonoffensive game like My Sims Party (now available on, not surprisingly, the Wii) to a high school drinking party?  Well, I actually just told you why, but let me elaborate.  See, a freshman kegger, a high school drinking party, has about as much chance of getting actual alcohol as, say, Dick Cheney has of being elected president.  It would require an incredible intersection of events–extremely permissive parents, an understanding elder relative who didn’t fear anything less than extremely permissive parents, outright bribery–to actually happen, so the result you’re left with is a party that promises to be a lot more than it actually is.

This is, of course, exactly the case with My Sims Party, a game that promises to be a whole lot more than it actually is but seems unable to deliver.

The plot is pretty simple, as is generally the case for Sims games of any stripe–you’ve moved to a new town, which you get to name (I called mine Steveland, because it’s so very plausible and sounds almost exactly like Cleveland, only with two letters changed).  The tourism board of this little town is desperate for a way to keep residents in the town, working and contributing to the tax base–and of course is always looking to bring in more people–thus they’ve hit on the idea of the Festival.  The town regularly (at least once a month from the look of it) declares a holiday and puts on a tournament of various minigames, including running luggage from one side of a hotel lobby to another, dancing at a night club, scooping up to-order ice cream cones and making pizzas.   This all will, of course, be accomplished by doing various things with your Wiimote.

All of this sounds fun enough on the surface–we’ve played a literal slew of games like this already–but the big problem with this one isn’t the cutesy-poo characters or the repetition or the fact that most of the “games” at this Festival look like a way for the townspeople to get free labor out of us, but rather that the controls are seriously malfunctioning.  When I went to rock out at the dance club, they assured me that all I’d have to do is “shake my Wiimote”, which sounds a lot dirtier than it actually is, but when the time came to do the shaking, it refused to accept my commands no matter which direction or how hard i shook the Wiimote.  Worse yet, it wouldn’t even accept simple button press commands.  Scooping the ice cream cones was also not an easy thing as my scoop would frequently overshoot the particular flavor of ice cream I was after.

So that’s why the comparison, and that’s why I can’t recommend this game at all.  Sure, it looks like it’d be a lot of fun.  it even sounds like a party.  But when you get there and discover that the promised keg is nowhere to be had and the game barely recognizes that you even have a Wiimote, there’s just not that much point in sticking around.

Shia LaBeouf’s assertion that the Wii is for amateurs didn’t help his image as a goofy awkward nerdy type, but Megan Fox is probably going to make some more fans with the acknowledgement that she is in fact something of a gamer. You won’t see her tossing grenades in an online Halo match or anything like that, but according to an interview in WhatTheyPlay.com she’s into the Wii: ”I’m totally a fan of the Wii, I’m just not good at it”.

The Transformers eye-candy admits to a prediliection for Lego licensed games and says the Star Wars games are her favorite of the bunch. She also claims to have memorized most of the fatality moves for Mortal Kombat and spends some of her time in virtual gardening with Rare’s Viva Pinata games and plays Wii Fit, defending it against claims that it’s only for girls.

Sure, Modern Warfare 2 is going to be one of the biggest console (and PC) launches to date but you didn’t think Activision would just forget about the portable market, did you? OK, good because the publisher has recently anounced that they have contracted Glu to develop a Modern Warfare 2 port for mobile phones.

There is absolutely no details on gameplay but we do know that Modern Warfare 2 will be workfor Blackberrys, the Android OS and Windows Mobile Phones when it is released towards the end of this year.

Activision must have something against Apple as they are missing out on a huge market by not releasing Modern Warfare 2 for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

It seems that EA and Dr. Pepper have signed a multimillion dollar advertising deal that will have the two companies cross advertising eachothers products.

The first project announced involves EA advertising Dr Pepper products in The Sims 3 early next year while Dr Pepper will include codes for unlockable Sims 3 content in their products.

This sounds great considering Dr Pepper is one of my favorite sodas, but I still think I like Mountain Dew’s introduction of Game Fuel as an advertisement for Halo 3 and reintrduced it for World of Warcraft. Anyone agree?

Dead Rising 2 was absent from E3 due to concerns over the infamous Swine Flu. So, the next logical place it would show up would be PAX, right? Nope, it seems that Dead Rising 2 will in fact be absent from PAX just as it was E3 with its next public showing slated for the Tokyo Game Show set to take place in September.

Joystiq proceeded to contact a Capcom representative for comment but all they got in return was to look out for the game during the Tokyo Game Show. Bummer.

Dead Rising 2 will be out for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC on March 21st, 2010.

It seems that a San Francisco resident by the name of Esther Leong has taken Square Enix of America to court for $5 million. The subject of the law suit is regarding MMO Final Fantasy XI and “unfair business practices, false advertising and unjust enrichment”.

According to Kotaku, Esther Leong is claiming that Square Enix “lied about or concealed its monthly fees, penalties for late payments, interest, restrictions and other things that should have been fully disclosed at points of purchase”.

Below is an excerpt from the court filings:

The deceptive advertising, unfair and undisclosed business practices, and concealment concern, among others:

i. Licensing of the online games software disguised as a sale;
ii. Monthly fees (“fees”) to play the online games;
iii. Penalties for late payment of the fees;
iv. Interest charges for late payment of the fees;
v. Charges while the online game account is suspended;
vi. Termination of the right to use the online games for late payment of the fees;
vii. User restrictions and conditions related to the online games;
viii. Termination of game data for payment of the fees.

Let’s see how this one unfolds.
