After all the teasing by LucasArts, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition has finally hit the App Store today. This means you can download the game for both the iPhone and iPod Touch.
According to the publisher, the portable version has the same improvements as the Xbox Live and PC versions of the game, including new visuals, voice acting, etc. I’m sure that there will be a few minor differences between the ports, seeing as the iPhone OS capability isn’t as powerful as its counterparts, but it’s still the game we all love.
The Tokyo Game Show this year is right around the corner, and today we learn that Kaz Hirai, Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of Sony Computer Entertainment, will be delivering the keynote at the event.
The keynote’s title will be “New Tactics For 2009″, and will also feature an all-Japanese panel discussion of executives from Capcom, Bandai Namco and Square Enix about global strategy.
This year’s Tokyo Game Show will be held from September 24 to September 27. The last two days will be open to the public, while the rest of the show is industry-only.
A demo for Katamari Forever is now out for the Japanese PlayStation Network. Today also marks the retail release of the game. If you live outside of Japan, obviously you can’t access the demo. However, there are ways to create a Japanese ID, if you’re really interested.
If you’re at Comic-Con right now, be sure to look for the demo there. Katamari Forever will be out in North America come September 22nd. No date has been announced for PAL regions. A trailer was released a few days back, so check that out while you’re in the whole ball rolling mood.
Yesterday Microsoft let us know that there would be an anime miniseries inspiried by their flagship franchise, Halo entitled Halo Legends.
Today, the internets are a buzz over the miniseries’ debut trailer, included above. As you can see, there are segments produced by all 5 Japanese studios that are signed onto the project.
But wait, during Casio Entertainment’s segment there are the beginnings of a CG swordfight. I don’t remember Master Chief moving so nimbly in the video games. Oh well, let’s hope Halo Legends does the franchise justice and isn’t just an attempt by Microsoft to milk the franchise.
It seems that those who were given the chance to test out the forthcoming Xbox Live dashboard update will be today greeted with a notice.
A notice offering you none other than the update’s beta version. Now, the full update‘s not expected to go live until next month, so the offerings are subject to change, but below is a list, courtesy of Engadget, detailing some of the new features:
Netflix now has way, way more options. You can actually browse content via the app, which is great. As a commenter points out, HD content is now denoted with a tag.
There isn’t any avatar prop content available just yet — hopefully we’ll get to pick out an awesome gun to carry around soon though.
No Games on Demand content from the current gen console is available, but apparently the games will start rolling out in early August (sigh).
As we noted in previous posts, the preview doesn’t boast any of the Last.fm, Facebook, or Twitter additions yet.
We know they’re still working the kinks out, but there seems to be noticeable slowdown when shifting between pages, something we’ve never noticed before in the NXE.
So far they seem to be satisfied with the update although we will all have to hold judgement on the New-New Xbox Experience until it’s actually released to the masses.
The wait between Command & Conquer: Generals and its successor, Command & Conquer 3, was about 5 years. EA seems to be avoiding a repeat as they have just released the debut trailer for Command & Conquer 4.
RTS fans, don’t expect any actual gameplay footage as the trailer features exclusivly what looks to be just cinematics. However, if you’re following the plot of the franchise you’ll be intrigued to hear that Nod head-honcho Kane makes an appearance in said trailer.
EA has no set release date for Command & Conquer 4 but they hope to have it hit the market sometime in 2010. Will the game have what it takes to oust Blizzard’s forthcoming Starcraft II? We’ll have to wait and find out.
In an age where HD reigns supreme along comes Bungie to let everyone know that Halo 3: ODST will not feature a 720p resolution. In fact, it will run at the same resolution that Halo 3 did, 1152×640.
Now, you can’t really get on Bungie’s case about this as ODST is essentially just an add-on for Halo 3 which means it’s running on the exact same engine. But for those of you who think the improved graphics of the ODST mean enhanced technology, think again.
Bungie elaborates on the subject:
“Everything that existed in Halo 3’s engine was there from the beginning. So the graphical differences that you’re seeing in ODST is really testament to the artists, because they were able to just take the tools that we had from the beginning, and just make awesome looking stuff.”
Halo 3: ODST will hit store shelves exclusivly for the Xbox 360 on September 22nd, 2009.
Back in my day, SteelSeries was known primarily for making high-quality gaming mousepads. Well, the times have evidentally changed as SteelSeries has expanded to other markets namely, the gaming mouse market.
What you see above are by no means their first foray into the mouse market but instead an addition. The pictured devices are the Xai and Kinzu Steelseries. The Xai being the higher-end offering at $80 with a 10.8MP per second sensor reportedly up to 5,0001 CPI. The feature that really sets it apart from the Kinzu, however, is that it features an LCD display for on-the-go configuration. The Kinzu, on the other hand, clocks in at $34.99, features no LCD display and a slightly smaller design.
Expect both the Xai and Kinzu mouses from SteelSeries at some point next month.
Are you a fan of Ecko clothing? I’m not, but I’m a fan of Halo effectively making the above shirts at least kind of cool.
Seriously though, what you see above a collection of 6 Halo-inspired Ecko t-shirts that are now available for purchase. They are priced from 32-38 dollars and feature Master Chief aimin’, shootin’ and (most importantly) posin’.
Sure, I have to give it Ecko for making a few cool designs but as for the rest, well, I think Kotaku puts it best when they said they look like “designs that you would expect to see adorning an unlicensed beach towel in a South-East Asian marketplace.
