It seems that everyone’s favorite side-scrolling beat ‘em up, Streets of Rage, has made its way to Apple’s highly successful App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game is available today at an asking price of $4.99.

Of course, I don’t know how much I’d like the touch-screen controls with a game that requires such button mashing but I’m sure some nostalgia will be good.

View a video demo of the game after the break.

Despite the patch being announced well over a year ago, and the beta for the patch being released back in April, the preparations are being made for a final release for the 1.5 patch for Battlefield 2. Associate producer Barrie Tingle of Battlefield 2 gives word that the patch will be finalized and released very soon.

“When I get back into the office next week there will be some last minute checks (no more fixes (unless something is broken that I didn’t expect) or changes) and all being well the update 1.50 will be finalized and released officially.” Tingle said.

Changes since the beta started include a black cross hair on the TV guided missles and widescreen FoV on widescreen resolutions.

After his movie “Tunnel Rats”, which, like any other Uwe Boll film, failed artistically and commercially, a game based on the movie is now out. Developed by Replay Studios and published by non other than Uwe Boll’s own movie production company, Boll AG, the game is a first person shooter, where players assume the role of a soldier during the Vietnam War. After his buddies are killed, he must fight the Vietcong on his own, through a series of tunnels in the jungle.

As bad as the movie was — which I saw, and wished ever since that I didn’t — I didn’t expect the game to be a Call of Duty 4 in terms of gameplay and visuals. It wasn’t. In fact, it’s far from it. You might actually say; this is the exact opposite of Call of Duty 4 when it comes to FPS titles.

For Tunnel Rats is so bad, it becomes funny. You literally find yourself laughing out loud, thinking, “it is not possible that a game is this bad” and “they’re kidding, this is just a joke”. It’s no joke. It’s dead serious. Serious as war. In the jungle. In tunnels. The entire game, besides a brief moment where you surface, is set in dark tunnels — all five hours of gameplay is one tunnel after another. And the challenge? A few enemies and a million traps. Because of the deadly traps — a fact which the developers reinforce by having you killed every single time with no warning — are everywhere, and for four out of those five hours in the tunnels, you’ll be taking one careful step after the next, looking all over the murky, dark and horribly rendered tunnels after what might seem as a trap. If you find one, you defuse it and move on, 2 minutes later, doing the same. Again and again. Until you die. Then you reload and do it again.

The graphics are horrible, the sounds dated and the voice over is laughable. Even if the game was released ten years ago, the technical aspects would still feel dated. And then there’s the sheer amount of bugs and glitches in the game. Although, once you get above the ground, the visuals are a lot better, you can simply jump over the traps, and the combat is better too. But then after a few minutes, you realize that it’s horrible, it only appeared good because you were in the hell of the tunnels for hours.

In all, Tunnel Rats is just despicable and should be avoided. I’ve seen mods made by one-person teams that are better than this. What Uwe Boll has been doing to game franchises in movie form, the game developers have done to him in form of a video game. I’ll even recommend the movie over the game — it’s cheaper and is over quickly. And you can walk out from the theater, it’s not like a game that you have to play all the way in order to write a review…

The Good:
The font on the box art is cool

The Bad:
Very dated visuals
Horrible audio and dialogue
Repetitive, boring gameplay
Laughable story
Buggy and glitchy
Based on a movie by Uwe Boll

Overall score: 0/10 (Yes, zero).

Team 17′s latest sci-fi top-down shooter Alien Breed Evolution was originally announced without an initial platform to be released on.

A Team 17 representative revealed that the game will indeed be seeing a multi-platform release, however, the game will be heading to the Xbox Live Arcade first. Treyarch Studios has given word that the new Call of Duty: World at War patch is now live and can be downloaded from several mirrors on the official website. If you used Steam to purchase the game, the download and installation will be automatic.

Along with the main patch, Mod Tools 1.3 is now out, in addition to the 1.5 Linux dedicated server bins. The new Mod Tools allows gamers to get started on their own Nazi Zombie maps, so expect a load of fun new environments to shoot some undead heads off soon.

The developers also gave the GGL and Clanbase a plug, encouraging competitive players to sign up for the new PC tournaments. The tournaments’ prizes offer up to $2,500 prizes and Call of Duty apparel.

Make the jump for the changelog.

SNK Playmore brings us a new trailer for their upcoming 2D fighting game King of Fighters XII. Despite European gamers getting a later release date than the rest of us, I’m sure people are still eagerly awaiting the arrival of the title.

2D fighting has never looked this crisp before; the frame rate is smooth and the gameplay looks very promising. How it will compare to more graphically sophisticated fighters of today? Only time will tell.

King of Fighters XII will be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on July 28th in North America, and a August 28th launch in Europe.
