If you’re an FPS fan, you’ve probably heard of ArmA 2, a game who’s title is often confused with “Armed Assault 2″ — it’s not, ArmA is actually the spiritual successor to Operation Flashpoint. In ArmA 2, the game takes place in a fictional Soviet country called Chernarus, where a battle rages between communists (backed by Russia) and a Western backed democratic government. We won’t go into details because it would spoil the rather Tom Clancy-like storyline.
The gameplay of ArmA 2 does not resemble your average FPS, on the contrary, ArmA 2 is highly realistic and focuses on simulation aspects of the genre. Players can command AI squads into battle and get an overview of the battlefield with a “high command system”, kinda like the “Commander” feature in Battlefield 2. Both features work good and add a layer of strategy elements on top of a game that is already highly realistic and complex. READ ON »
Sony was kind enough to release a batch of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves screenshots for us to look at as we prepare for the game’s launch in November.
The sequel is set to have online multiplayer modes, and new gameplay mechanics. In addition to gameplay improvements, the game will have no loading screens and have updated graphics. Hit the jump for the rest of the screens.
Players who are planning on reserving Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction from GameStop will be receiving an exclusive in-game semi-automatic shotgun. The website reads, “If you prefer the rugged sophistication of a manual shotgun, but also enjoy the convenience of an automatic, then this is the shotgun for you! Available for online and in-store customers while supplies last.”
Online customers will receive an e-mail with a code to input into the game, while store customers will receive a game card. Either way, it’s still the same code. You can pre-order the game at GameStop. Splinter Cell: Conviction comes out this October for the Xbox 360 and PC.
LucasArts recently announced that The Secret of Monkey Island would be seeing a remake and be heading the Xbox Live Arcade and Steam platforms. However, today we find that the game may also be hitting iPhones. LucasArts’ Twitter page reveals an iPhone sized Monkey Island wallpaper, with the text:
“For our Monkey fans – an iPhone sized wallpaper. No reason. Wink wink nod nod.”
This can pretty much be interpreted as confirmation for a Monkey Island debut for the iPhone, but due to Apple’s terms of services, developers are not allowed to formally announce software until it has gone gold.
If you can’t wait for more details on the iPhone version, you can grab the XBLA or Steam releases on the 15th.
It seems that the Japanese LittleBigPlanet site has jumped the gun and showcased the upcoming Ghostbusters DLC pack for the game.
Fans of the Ghostbusters franchise will recognize that the DLC pack will include the Puft Marshmallow Man, all 4 ghostbusters, and Slimer, making for what is gearing up to be my favorite LittleBigPlanet pack to date.
Unfortunately, us American gamers have been effectively left in the dust with no official unveiling yet. Come on Sony, get on that!
Yesterday, a PS3 trophy list was uncovered that showed new content coming to Guerilla’s Killzone 2. Today, we have an official announcement coming straight from the Playstation Blog: a DLC pack entitled Napalm & Cordite.
This pack will include both the flamethrower and boltgun, along with the maps Suljeva Cliffside and Arctower landing, just as the trophy list had suggested.
Furthermore, the pack will update Killzone 2 to version 1.28 which brings all sorts of bug fixes and the like. You can check the full list of changes includes in said version after the break.
More information is to be released about the DLC pack next week.
It’s no secret that LittleBigPlanet has an extensivelibrary of downloadable content making it almost impossible for gamers new on the scene to keep up. Well, if recent reports are true, Sony is going to make it a lot easier for said gamers to keep on the ball.
Apparently, a LittleBigPlanet Game of the Year edition will be released for the Playstation 3 at some point this year that will include most of the game’s DLC already on the Playstation Network.
While there’s no official confirmation from Sony, I’d say there is a pretty good chance this will happen. I mean, Sony needs something to fill up those Blu-ray discs with, right?
Kart racing never gets old; they’re always a fun pick-me-up that you can play with with your friends or with yourself. At this year’s E3, Sony showed off their entry into the genre with ModNation Racers, with their own little mix.
Developed by United Front Games, ModNation is mostly a user-generated content game, allowing players to create and share their own tracks and characters. The trailer shows off some of the ways you can customize your character and use the level designer to create unique maps for you to share with the world.
ModNation Racers will be out sometime next year on the PlayStation 3.
Capcom, Metaboli, and GameTap have teamed up to bring Street Fighter II: Champion Edition to your web browser. The arcade game has been recreated in Flash by Dotemu, in honor of the recent PC release of Street Fighter IV.
Street Fighter II includes 12 playable characters: Ryu, Ken, Honda, Chun-li, Blanka, Guile, Zangief, Dhalsim, Balrog, Vega, Sagat and M.Bison. All of the regular perks of the game are still in the game, including memorable car bashing and such.
The game itself plays pretty smoothly, but if you’re a real stickler, you will notice some slowdown in response times. You can play the game here.
