In case you’re itching for a bargain, Steam is offering Race Driver: GRID for a nice 50% off its regular price, bringing the total down to a nice $14.99.

A sequel for GRID will also be coming out this September, so if you want to take a look at the series before you buy it for the full retail price, this is probably a good idea.

Personally, I have played the game and found it to be one of the better racing experiences of this generation. You can grab the download over at the Steam Store, however, the offer will only be available for the weekend.

It seems that Major Nelson has recently updated his blog to notify gamers that there is a whole slew of content on its way to the Xbox Live Arcade this summer. Most of these games we already knew about but this gives us a clear release window and price point for each title:

  • July 22: TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-shelled 1200 Microsoft Points
  • July 29: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 1200 Microsoft Points
  • August 5: ‘Splosion Man 800 Microsoft Points
  • August 12: Trials HD 1200 Microsoft Points
  • August 19: Shadow Complex 1200 Microsoft Points
  • Considering I’m a huge fan of the fighting genre, the only game I will be picking up this summer (off of the XBLA, at least) will be Marvel vs. Capcom 2. What about you guys?

Thanks to the above image, provided by Kotaku, of recently added Killzone 2 trophies, we now know what a future DLC pack will contain.

As you can see, two new weapons en route to the game are the Boltgun and Flamethrower. Additionally, two new maps are to be called Arctower Landing and Suljeva Cliffside.

While all of the above-mentioned content is still unconfirmed, they are sure to be showing up in a forthcoming DLC pack for Killzone 2 sooner or later. Now all we need is an official announcement from Guerilla and we’re set.

Electronic Arts has supplied us with a nice trailer for their new first-person-shooter Battlefield 1943. The game launched yesterday for the Xbox 360 and today for the PS3 for a reasonable $15 or 1200 MS Points.

If you’re like me and like your FPS served with a keyboard and mouse, the PC version is expected to come out sometime in September.

Check out our review of the game in case you’re wondering if it’s worth your time.

Yesterday, Electronic Arts accidentally revealed the new Command and Conquer game, but today it has been made official, along with a beautiful gameplay screen. Coming out next year, Command and Conquer 4 will be bringing the Tiberium saga to a conclusive end.

The game will be taking place after the events of the third game and will finally answer all of the questions for the series, including the fate of Earth, Nod, Tiberium, GDI, and even Kane’s motivations.

The campaign modes will be playable in both single player and cooperative modes. In addition to the epic storyline, the game will also feature a new 5v5 objective-based multiplayer mode. If you’re looking for a trailer, it will be unveiled on July 24th. We will have more information as details are revealed.

The spiritual sequel to the multiplayer classic Battlefield 1942 has been highly anticipated for a number of reasons. For one, it’s a download only title — a first for a Battlefield game (not counting Battlefield Heroes) — and also, it’s the first time the Battlefield franchise goes back to WW2, this time with the much improved Frostbite engine, which showcased its strength in the excellent Battlefield Bad Company released last year.

Battlefield 1943, being a download only title, is not expected to weigh in like a full game — it doesn’t, but it’s also priced accordingly: $15 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (a PC version will be released laster this summer, most likely at the same price level). Unlike 1942, BF 1943 is set only in the Pacific Theater, with three maps, Iwo Jima, Guadacanal, and the classic: Wake Island. Players fight it out as one of two teams; United States Marine Corps or the Imperial Japanese Navy.

While the game supports up to 24 players, we would have liked to see more players fight it out — 64 players has been standard on the PC, and we know that consoles are capable of having more than 24. However, don’t expect to be bored on the large maps with only 11 teammates and 12 foes — because of the squad and respawn systems, there’s usually always some action going on, and one doesn’t have to look far away in order to find an enemy to fight.

One thing we found lacking, and this is despite it being a cut down version with only three maps, is the fact that there are only three playable classes — infantryman, rifleman and scout — down from 8 classes in Battlefield 2 (arguably the best Battlefield ever made). We would have liked more variety, more classes and more weapons, especially the Medic class, which is now gone and not needed because a player’s health regenerates (much like in Halo and Call of Duty). It’s a step in the bad direction for the Battlefield franchise, and we hope that this system doesn’t carry on in future Battlefield games, especially the highly anticipated Battlefield 3.

Technically and artistically, the game shines. The Frostbite engine renders great visuals, offers fully destructible environments, and there is a real feel of WW2, the explosions, the visuals, and especially the audio, are all top notch. While playing, we didn’t experience any lag or server issues and we had no trouble finding a full server to play on.

Overall, Battlefield 1943 offers a lot of fun and action, and sets the standard for downloadable games in its price class. While hardcore Battlefield fans (especially those coming from Battlefield 2), might be turned off by only three maps and three classes, it’s still worth checking out, especially since it’s only $15.

    Good:
Good value for money, lots of fun to be had.
    Great production values.
    Great visuals and sound.
    Runs smooth throughout.

    Bad:
    Still only 24 players.
Could use more classes and more variety.
Hardcore Battlefield fans might be find it disappointing.
    Only one multiplayer mode.

    Overall score: 8/10

With the new MechWarrior title on its way, one can’t help but to look back on previous installments of the franchise. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of BattleTech, MechWarrior 4: Vengeance will be made available free to download. All of the game’s existing expansions, Black Knight and Mercenaries, will also be included in the offer.

The game was released nearly nine years ago, so it will be interesting to see how far the series has come since then. No word on when the download will be up, but it will hopefully be available in the following days. MechWarrior 4 will be exclusively distributed by MekTek Studios.

Capcom recently updated their Twitter page, revealing that the classic fighter Marvel vs Capcom 2 will be hitting the Xbox Live Arcade on July 29th.

PS3 owners will have to wait on a release date, but it is likely that the game will hit the PlayStation Network the following day. But one day isn’t too long, considering that the PS3 has had the exclusive demo for a while now.

Marvel vs Capcom 2, including complete online multiplayer functionality, will cost you 1,200 Microsoft Points.
