Activision has recently released the above advertisement for their forthcoming multiplatform title, Guitar Hero 5. Just like their previous slew of advertisements this one features Guitar Hero being played in nothing more than button downs and socks. However, Activision has replaced Michael Phelps and Tony Hawk with Playboy Playmates and Hugh Hefner.

Need I say more?

Last month we learned that EyePet would be hitting store shelves for the PlayStation 3 sometime this holiday season with no word of an exact date. Today, Sony has announced that the PlayStation Eye utlizing EyePet will hit store shelves on November 17th. There will be two versions of the game, one without the Eye for $39.99 and one bundled with it for $69.99.

Considering we haven’t seen much in terms of game play footage for EyePet, we’ve included a video preview of the game for your viewing pleasure above.

GameStop is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) game retailers in the entire United States but currently they do not offer rentals like companies such as GameFly. That may all change if recent rumors floating around regarding a possible buyout are to be believed.

Apparently, the Antioch Grove was on hand at a Halo 3: ODST event hosted by GameStop where a representative hinted at a possible buyout. Below is an excerpt from their coverge:

“Perhaps even more interesting than all of the buzz and activity surrounding the event, was a conversation that we had with a few of the Gamestop employees who were helping to host the event. After lamenting about the poor customer experience from the video game by mail company Gamefly, we asked why Gamestop didn’t come up with their own games by mail program, so that residents could get their games from the mail or locally. Pretty much all of the employees agreed that this would be a fine addition to the Gamestop family, but it was what they said afterwards that was a bit surprising.

Apparently, the water cooler gossip around the Antioch and Brentwood stores is that “someone” (Gamestop) is planning on buying out Gamefly before the end of the year. When pressed for more details on the subject, the Gamestop representatives grew quiet and didn’t provide a lot of details, but most of the employees in attendance seemed pretty confident about the rumor. Having a hot game come into town for a preview is exciting, but would pale in consideration to how big this would be. We’re still keeping this one on rumor status until we can get more concrete information, but it definitely caught our attention and something that we will keep our eyes open for.”

If/when this deal goes down it is sure to make GameStop a force to be reckoned with, as if it wasn’t already.

In the United States (and most everywhere else), Activision currently has the publishing rights for the highly anticipated Modern Warfare 2. In Japan, however, that may not be the case.

What you see above is a screenshot taken of a teaser site Square Enix has recently put up. As you can see, there is Japanese letting that spells out quotes from Napolean, Patton and more in front of a huge 2 that bares an uncanny resemblance to the one found in all of the Modern Warfare 2 promotional material.

Coincidence? I think not.

Sony has desperately needed a price cut for the PS3, which it now has received, among other things. The PS3 Slim — technically it’s just called a PlayStation 3 — is about a third lighter and smaller than the previous console. The Cell CPU in the new PS3 is built using the 45nm process, and combined with updates to other parts of the hardware, the console uses less than half of the power of a first gen PS3. It’s still unknown whether other hardware, mainly the RSX graphics chip, is also built using the new 45nm process, but considering the improvements on power efficiency, it doesn’t really matter at this point.

Spec wise, the PS3 has a 120 GB hard drive as standard (which can be replaced by any 2.5″ hard drive of any size), but like the other model, it can’t play PS2 games (PSOne are all playable). It’s also a more stripped down version — there’s no card reader, only has two USB ports, and a stripped down WiFi without draft N support, which is kind of a shame, as almost all devices support the far superior N draft. The new console has the same slot loading 2X Blu-ray drive, and we experienced it to be noticeably quieter when watching Blu-ray movies. Overall, the console seems to be running cooler and quieter, especially during Blu-ray movie playback, as mentioned before. READ ON »

Well that didn’t take very long — Just hours after an Amazon.de listing showcased the unannounced 250GB hard drive touting Xbox 360 a South African advertisement has appeared showing the same hardware.

This time it’s up for R4,199, or about $542 as opposed to Amazon’s €280/$379 and from the looks of the ad, it doesn’t even include Forza Motorsport 3. Looks like South African gamers are getting screwed.

Here’s something I’m sure no one saw coming — It was recently announced that Rocksteady Studios’ Batman: Arkham Asylum has earned itself a spot in the Guinness World Record Book.

It doesn’t have the biggest games, doesn’t feature the highest polygon count, but it is the “Most Critically Acclaimed Super Hero Game Ever”. Wait, what? Who the hell decides which game is the most critically acclaimed, isn’t that all about opinion? I mean the game looks cool and all but who is tasked with deciding stuff like this?

It looks like Guinness has sold out, I wonder how much Warner Bros. had to pay to get Arkham Asylum in the book.
