Lots of FPS titles tout “strategy elements” in order to differentiate themselves from the myriad of other similar games. Raven Squad is one of those titles, however, the promise of “strategy” is quickly overshadowed by just how bad this game is. Granted, it has some strategic elements in form of a top-down view, the rest however, is so bad, it’s embarrassing. There are plenty of bad games out there, some even laughable. But it takes a very special kind of developers to create something that feels embarrassing to play. Remember when you watched idol and all those folks making fools out of themselves, remember when you were embarrassed on their behalf? That’s how you’re gonna feel the majority of the time playing Raven Squad. It’s so bad it’s practically begging Uwe Boll to turn it into a movie.

Raven Squad is an FPS game where you’re part of a special ops squad, solving missions, going behind enemy lines etc. You can switch between any of your squad members and play as them, which is an advantage because they have different weapons load out. However, all the weapons and the combat feels so tedious and repetitive, you can’t help but feeling hopeless, not for your situation in the game, but helpless for the game. The weapons have virtually no feel to them, and when you hit enemies, there’s no indication that you hit them, until they fall down and die. READ ON »

It seems that a French prisoner by the name of Jean-Pierre Treiber fashioned a cardboard box during his stay at a prison in Auxerre, Burgundy. He then proceeded to hide in the box as it was loaded onto a truck with several others thus escaping from the high security prison.

Now, you may be wondering what the hell does this have to do with video games but Metal Gear Solid fans will know just fine what it has to do. Any bets on how long until Mothers against Metal Gear makes its debut?

There are plenty of FPS titles around, and there are even more sci-fi based FPS games. However, 2009 hasn’t seen that many, and actually, Section 8 is the first AAA (or just, “AA”) sci-fi FPS title this year.

Section 8, developed by the guys who did the FEAR expansions, is a sci-fi themed first person shooter that focuses on multiplayer action, much like Battlefield. The goal is to control a series of points in a game mode called “Conquest”, again, much like in Battlefield. However, Section 8 is far from a rip off; for instance, you no longer have to wait for a respawn timer to tick tock away so you can get back into action, no, in Section 8, when you die, you are instantly dropped from the sky and have the glide on to the battlefield. This is quite a unique take on the respawn mode, and it works quite well in practice, as you can decide where you want to land, whether you wanna drop close to the enemy, or perhaps a little further back and get an overview of the situation. Batman: Arkham Asylum
Now here’s an idea developers are sure to adopt — It seems that a user by the name of Chesirec_the_cat recently posted on the Batman: Arkham Asylum PC forums, expressing his concern that he could not use Batman’s glide at a part of the game thus leading to his continous death.

Well, it forum moderator Keir replied letting this user know that Eidos put the glitch into the game intentionally so those who pirated the game could not play through the entire thing. He then went on to say, “It’s not a bug in the game’s code, it’s a bug in your moral code.”

So, EA are you listening? This seems like the best alternative to DRM as it’s been proven no one likes that, right?

It was recently announced via twitter that Halo Waypoint will be hitting Xbox Live on November 5th. Now before you get too excited, Halo Waypoint is not a new Halo game (I had you goin’ for a second, huh?).

Instead, Halo Waypoint is a service to be offered over Xbox Live to will include everything to do with the Halo universe; think podcasts, trailers, interviews and more. Additionally, Halo Waypoint will serve as the mode of delivery for the Halo Legends anime mini series that we heard about back in June.

Excited? No? Me neither.
