When I was younger one of my favorite RTS franchises was undoubtedly Age of Empires. I remember you were able to enter a cheat and unlock a sports car carrying a guy with a rocket launcher. Well, here we are, years later and the game has definitely made some progress with the latest major release being Age of Empires III.

For those of you who missed out on 2005 release, Microsoft is giving you another chance to experience it with the forthcoming release of Age of Empires III: Complete Collection. The game will hit store shelves on September 15th for $49.95 and include Age of Empires III along with it’s two expansion; The Asian Dynasties and War Chiefs.

Red Steel 2
Red Steel 2
is shaping up to be a great game but just how many people will get the chance to play it remains unknown considering it is being released on only one console; the Wii. Sure, the Wii has sold ridiculous amounts of consoles but it’s generally hypothesized that the majority of those sales were to the casual players. Considering Red Steel 2 is what some would call a “hardcore” game, it would only make sense that Ubisoft would bring it to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 but that wasn’t a possibility up until both Microsoft and Sony announced their own motion controllers.

Well, it seems that Joystiq recently sat down with the creative director of Red Steel 2, Jason VanderBerghe, and questioned him of the possibility of seeing the title appear on other consoles. He responded that he would love to see the Red Steel franchise appear on other consoles but ultimately the decision would be up to Ubisoft.

Red Steel 3 with Project Natal? Count me in.

It seems that the guys over at Joystiq have managed to take the above screen shot of the Batman: Arkham Asylum main menu that reveals something we previously didn’t know. It seems that the game will be getting a free DLC pack sometime next week, as you can see from said screen shot.

Of course, we have absolutely no details regarding the DLC pack but chances are Rocksteady or Warner Bros. will come clean sometime within the next couple of days.

One of the biggest gripes gamers usually have against the PSP is its lack of a strong game library. However, if recent reports are to be believed Sony may have a few tricks up their sleeve to remedy that.

One of those tricks is the possibility of free PSP Minis developer kits which would give a much larger group of developers access to the service. News comes to us from a recent interview done with Sony Europe’s Zeno Colaco where he was questioned about the possibility of a free dev kit, to which he responded:

“Further down the line, we may investigate a totally free model or supported model.”

However, Colaco says, having a free dev kit isn’t all peaches:

“There are dangers in having total open access; having six thousand applications where probably only thirty are discovered by the consumer. Some of the developers working on the App Store and PSP Minis tell us that they prefer our approach because they get more visibility.”

What you see above is reportedly a Japanese YouTube advertisement for Square Enix’s highly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII. As you can see, it clearly displays that the game will hit Japanese store shelves on December 17th, 2009, but is that to be believed? We’ll have to wait until Square Enix makes an official announcement regarding the game which is expected sometime in the near future.

As for a North American release date? No word.

Earlier this year developer Twisted Pixel released The Maw on XBLA to mixed reviews and success, but fear not, they’re back, this time with Splosion Man, an XBLA title that’ll certainly blow you away — pun definitely intended.

In Splosion Man, you play as a scientist after an accident has rendered you inhuman — where “inhuman” means that you can explode at will and destroy everything around you. It’s a platform game that requires lots of jumping around, lots of puzzle solving, and most importantly, lots of explosions. You have basically one skill besides running: exploding. When you explode, you propel into the air, which means you’ll be exploding a lot and it also means you can preform some sick triple jumps as well. However, your explosions are limited to three at a time. Afterwords, you need to cool down a bit before the wrecking continues. READ ON »

A trailer for Ōkamiden: Chiisaki Taiyō has popped up on the web. It’s relatively short to standard trailers, but it gives a nice glimpse to how the game looks so far. Ōkamiden is a direct sequel to the original Ōkami, although the game’s protagonist is Chibiterasu, who bares a great resemblance to Amaterasu.

The game will be hitting Japan next year for the Nintendo DS. No word on an international release as of yet.

khbirthbysleepSquare Enix has opened up an official website yesterday for their upcoming PlayStation Portable Disney-crossover action RPG, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. The site’s content (besides the menu) is in entirely kanji, so if you can’t read it, you’re out of luck. But most of the content is in regards to the game’s protagonists and story.

The pictures and video are nice to look at, although the trailer is outdated. And who can forget the epic music by the stylings of Yoko Shimomura and Kaoru Wada?

The game is listed for a Winter release this year in Japan. No word on when the game will be localized into English.

u2fortuneOver at the Penny Arcade Expo panel for Uncharted 2 comes word of the rare Fortune Hunter Edition package for the game. The reason why it’s so rare is that it cannot be bought, but only won through Sony endorsed contests.

In the package includes a retail copy of the game, an autographed copy of the Collectible Art Book and Collector case, and even exact in-game replica of the Phurba Dagger Artifact and stand. Unspecific downloads are also thrown into the mix.

More news about how one can obtain this collectible will be revealed soon.
