While Netflix is currently exclusive on the Xbox 360, the massive video rental and streaming service wants to be on the PS3 and Wii as well. CEO Reed Hastings told Reuters, “Eventually we want to be on all the game consoles, all the Blu-ray players, all the Internet TVs. So we are working in parallel with all of those efforts. Currently our Xbox deal is exclusive and we haven’t characterized it more than that.”
Netflix currently has a contract with Microsoft prohibiting them on offering the service to competing consoles, but that will most likely change as soon as the contract runs out.
The upcoming STALKER: Call of Pripyat is one of the few games that will support the new DirectX 11 API, and developer GSC Gameworld has already revealed a few screenshots comparing the two. While you can’t see much difference, as it’s still early and the first few games don’t utilize the new software the best way, there’s still noticeable improvements.
In the screenshot above, the left side is DX 10.1 while the right is DX 11. Notice the gas mask and how the air filter is properly round instead of angular. FiringSquad has a lot more screenshots here.
If you thought that Project Natal was going to be just be a gimmicky Wii remake perhaps recent reports will make you think otherwise. It seems that Joystiq has recently done an interview with Microsoft VP’s Phil Spencer who said he wouldn’t be surprised if the technology makes its way into a future Fable title.
Below is an excerpt from the interview:
“You know, Lionhead’s been a real innovation studio for us. We have the release of Fable 2 episodic this week, where they’re taking Fable 2 and breaking it up into chunks, allowing people to buy the content at their pace. Fable 2, I thought, was a great release, with the orbs they added with Live, adding new functionality to the franchise. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Natal found its way into future iterations of Fable.”
So, if more major studios like Lionhead pick up Project Natal, we may be seeing some very innovative uses come from it.
Valve has recently come forth to let us know of this weekend’s deal for their digital distribution platform Steam. This particular weekend deal focuses on F.E.A.R 2 as it effectively slashes the price of the standalone title along with its Reborn DLC pack by 50%.
This means that for this weekend only you will be able to pick up F.E.A.R 2 and the Reborn DLC pack for $24.99 and $4.99, respectively. Of course, you’re going to have to settle with having just a digital copy of the game and not a physical one but that’s just a small price to pay for such a great deal.
Those anxiously awaiting the release of Obsidian Entertainment’s Alpha Protocol: The Espionage RPG won’t be happy to hear that the title’s release date is getting pushed back.
Both GameStop and Amazon.ca have recently updated the ship dates which suggest the title will be hitting store shelves on June 1st and June 30th. So, this means those living in the United States will be able to purchase the game on June 1st of next year while those living in Canada will get it on June 30th, also of next year. This goes against the previously published ship date of late October.
Perhaps everyone is really getting out of the way for Modern Warfare 2?
It’s been six months since Resident Evil 5 was released on consoles, and PC owners finally get a chance to indulge themselves in one of the best games the series has yet to offer. While the PC version isn’t drastically different from the console counterparts, there are some changes, and they’re enough to make the PC version probably the best of all three.
First thing you’ll notice is that the game looks better than on the consoles. It not only runs at a higher resolution (depending on your monitor, of course), but it looks a lot crisper as well. And it runs quite smooth, even on older hardware and all setting maxed out. In addition to the visuals, the other addition, albeit quite minor, adds two more costumes you can use with your characters. One of the better additions, comes in form of better controls, especially the inventory, which you can now use the 9 slots of the inventory and access it through the 1-9 keys on your keyboard, instead of going through the inventory screen every single time. It’s a great new addition which takes away a lot of the frustration that was in the console versions. However, you still need to memorize your inventory to fully take advantage of the keys. READ ON »

What you see above is a video recently posted up by GameVideos which was taken during a Crackdown 2 demonstration at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. Included in said video is the first ever look at Crackdown 2‘s game play.
There’s not much I can say about the game other than that it looks much more pleasing visually than the first which is definitely a good sign. Anyways, check out the video and let us know what you think of it.
Ruffian Studios says Crackdown 2 will be out sometime in 2010.
Despite rather negative reviews, it seems that money talks — that is, if it’s free, it’s got a great shot of being popular. EA’s free to play cartoonish-styled Battlefield Heroes has reached another milestone, with more than 2 million players who have signed up so far.
Back in June, EA announced that they had hit the 1 million player milestone, meaning we can expect 3 million by the end of the year, if the growth continues at this pace. To celebrate the milestone, EA is releasing a free “Heroes of the Fall” update, which will include a new map and will be released on September 30.
