Without a doubt, the PS3 Slim has been a huge success for Sony, which has had the best selling console ever since it was released a month ago. And, as expected, it has become the top selling console in Japan for the month of September, beating Nintendo’s Wii for the first time, where the Slim sold a shopping 309,939 units. the DS and DSi came in close second, with the Wii trailing in third.

While AMD launched high-end 5870 graphics card, it became not only the first and only DX11 card on the market, it was by far the fastest single-GPU card on the market. Now, AMD has released the budget version, which costs $100 less (retails at $250), but is clocked less and has a few less shader cores than the big brother. However, don’t expect the card to be a lot slower — it’s still one of the fastest on the market, and given that Nvidia’s next-gen GPUs won’t be out until next year, AMD looks to dominate the market this holiday season, especially considering DirectX 11 cards.

While AMD launched its next-gen graphics card with DirectX 11 support, the Radeon 5870 a week ago, Nvidia has revealed details of its graphics chip. The new GT300 will have over twice as many cores as the previous GT200 generation, and will be packing a whopping 512 cores into one chip. Coupled with up to 6GB GDDR5 memory (4GB for graphics cards, 6GB for HPC cards) and will be the first graphics card to include support for C++ code execution, and the first chip to include L1 and L2 cache.
All this contributes to the chip holding the largest amount of transistors of any chip: 3 billion. Unfortunately, the new graphics cards won’t be released until early next year, which gives AMD almost a six month advantage on the DX11 scene.
