borderlands

It’s no secret that the Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification is pretty strict when it comes to rating games considering their highest rating is MA15+ so the fact that they have turned their heads to Borderlands is no surprise.

Of course, the game isn’t actually set to hit Steam until October 30th but Australian gamers who were able to get their hands on a copy prior to its release date have found several instances of censorship. Now, this is all fine and dandy considering is it Australia but according to 2k Games, this wasn’t supposed to happen.

Luckily, the studio is working to get the actual uncensored version onto Steam and ready for its October 30th release date so Australian fans of blood and gore need not fret.

The Quickdev16 card, which plugs into an SNES, offers quick and easy access to SNES homebrew — the cartridge packs an Atmel AVR ATmega644 chip with a boot loader, a USB connection with which to upload a ROM, 16 megabits of SRAM, plus an RS232 converter (whatever that is). Who whole (tiny) package can be had for only $120 — cheap, when considering we’re talking about “game development” here. If you’re up to it, there’s more details about the card here.

The recent announcement of Netflix for the PS3 was well received among console owners, however, news has come out that might put a slight damper on the party — at least for a while.

Netflix revealed that the “Netflix blu-ray” disc that will ship free to PS3 owners, will have to be in the console during streaming of movies. Not just when you install the software, but every time you stream movies via the service. Netflix noted that the disc will only have to be used until they offer a downloadable service similar to the Xbox 360, which should come later this year.

Sure, smoking may most one of the self destructive habits you could take up but if you’re going to do it, you might as well do it in style. Geek style, that is.

What you see above are Branpresto’s recently announced Sega Mega Drive and Sega Saturn Zipp style lighters. Both of them are available for pre-order right now for ¥10,500 or about around $115.

Of course, if you don’t smoke you can always keep them as collectibles.

The Xbox 360 has had it for just about a year now but it seems that Sony and Netflix have finally inked a deal to bring Stream Instantly to the PS3, too.

Netflix says they will launch the service next month and will be free for subscribers to download and begin streaming some of their 17,000+ movies and TV shows instantly. This is good news for the company as well as us as it brings the service to millions of new potential customers.

We’ll keep you posted as the service’s launch date grows closer.

Infinity Ward recently announced that they would be shipping Modern Warfare 2 for the PC with no support for dedicated servers which had most of the community freaking out. Today, DICE, the guys behind Battlefield: Bad Company 2, have said that despite Infinty Ward’s move, they will stay with dedicated servers.

DICE’s Gordon Van Dyke comments:

Since Battlefield 1942 DICE has used dedicated servers for all platforms. This formula has worked well, and still works well, for us and for the gaming community. We have stayed true to this practice and will continue this tradition into the upcoming title Battlefield Bad Company 2. With dedicated servers everyone gets non-stop action with no connection penalties based on some other player and their internet.  This makes dedicated servers the best solution for online PC gaming hands down!”
