crystaldynamicslogo

You may remember that earlier this year Crystal Dynamics, the guys behind the Tomb Raider franchise, had to lay off around 30 employees due to Tomb Raider: Underworld selling less copies than expected. Well, it seems that the studio is only now looking for a helping hand but this time for developers who have the ability “to create and lead the multiplayer vision and design effort” of a AAA title.

Of course, the listing doesn’t actually state that its for a new Tomb Raider game but considering that is all that has come from Crystal Dynamics for the past several years, it’s probably safe to say we will be seeing a multiplayer enabled Tomb Raider from the studio at some point in the future.

Check out the job listing here.

left4dead2

It seems that l4dmods recently got their hands on some juicy information that lets us know what the Left 4 Dead 2 SDK holds for us namely; custom models.

Now, this isn’t confirmed but if the below excerpt from the SDK’s addoninfo.txt is to be believed, developers will get a chance to include custom survivor, special infected, common infected and weapon models in addition to being able to actually customize a weapons functionality. Check it out for yourself:

addonContent_BackgroundMovie 0 //Provides a replacement for the background movie.
addonContent_Survivor 0 //Provides a new survivor model. 0=false, 1=true, String in quotes if replaces specific single character, i.e. “Francis”
addonContent_BossInfected 0 //Provides a new boss infected model. Break these out?
addonContent_CommonInfected 0 //Provides a new common infected model
addonContent_WeaponModel 0 //Provides a new appearance to existing weapons, but does not change their function
addonContent_weapon 0 //provides new weapons or new zombie killing functionality, i.e. guns, explosives, booby traps, hot tar,
addonContent_Skin 0 //0 if no new skin textures for existing models. 1 if multiple skin pack. String in quotes if specific single skin
addonContent_Spray 0 //Provides new sprays.
addonContent_Map 0 //Add-on provides a standalone map

We’ll have to wait until either Valve speaks on the new SDK or it actually comes out before writing this one off as confirmed

deadspace2teaser

If you weren’t aware Visceral Games is hard at work on Dead Space 2 and expects the game to be released at some point in 2010. However, despite it launching next year the studio has yet to release any kind of media relating to the game.

Today, the game’s official Twitter gives us a glimpse at the above teaser image release for Dead Space 2. You’re probably looking at it and thinking to yourself, “What the hell is that?”. Well, nothing is confirmed but if you look closely at the inkblot you’ll notice several silhouttes of Necromorphs, the baddies from the first game.

We’ll have to wait until the online community further dissects this image to pass final judgment on its meaning.

aliensvspredator

Yesterday we got word that the Classification Operations Board of Australia refused to let Sega‘s Aliens vs. Predator hit store shelves down under. We then learned that they were looking at way to get around this banning but it seems that the game’s developer, Rebellion, is none too pleased with the banning.

In fact, they have absolutely no intentions to clean the game of its content for an Australian release with their explanation below:

“The content of AVP is based on some of the most innovative and iconic horror movies, and as such we wanted to create a title that was true to the source material. It is for adults, and it is bloody and frightening, that was our intent. We will not be releasing a sanitized or cut down version for territories where adults are not considered by their governments to be able to make their own entertainment choices.”

So Australian gamers, unless Sega successfully appeals the original banning, chances are you won’t get a chance to play the game.

mag

Nowadays with the level of intensity in most shooters, it’s hard to come across one with anything less than an M rating. However, it seems that Zipper Interactive‘s forthcoming PS3 title MAG looks to break that trend as it was just issued a Teen rating by the ESRB.

Just why did they give the game a Teen rating? Their explanation below:

“This is a first-person shooter in which players select one of three private military corporations (Valor, Raven, and SVER) and complete covert missions to destroy opposing units in a massively-multiplayer online context. Players use assault rifles, sniper rifles, machine guns, knives, and grenades to kill enemies in frenetic and fast-paced combat. Soldiers can be shot repeatedly, even after they have fallen to the ground (i.e., postmortem damage). When an enemy is shot or knifed, small red blood puffs are visible (under 1 second on screen). The expletive “hell” can be heard several times during the game.”

Get ready to embark in up to 256 player battles as MAG will be made available on January 26th, 2010.

javelin

If you’ve been playing Modern Warfare 2 online (which you probably have) you’ll most likely have noticed the infamous javelin glitch being exploited. Clueless? Well, there’s a glitch that allows you to trigger a massive explosion when you die killing anyone in direct radius. Yeah, that one.

Luckily, the 1.06 patch is in the works to fix that glitch but that is not what this announcement focuses on. Instead, Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling has let us know (via twitter) that 1.05 has gone live for the PS3 version of Modern Warfare 2.
This update focuses souley on matchmaking updates with 1.06 fixing the javelin glitch, car packages and various other things like stated above.

mw2soldiers

Hey Government, are you paying attention? Activision has just let us know that the Modern Warfare 2 install base is already up to 8 million active users. Why would the government care? Well because according to Activision the army of MW2 players beat out the Army, Navy, Airforce and Marines by over 6 million.

Sure, this is just a fancy way of Activision bragging about how successful Modern Warfare 2 is but if/when World War III breaks out don’t be surprised if the feds turn to us gamers for help.
