Ever since the original Guitar Hero hit store shelves the brand has pretty much become a household name. However, most likely due to a surplus of titles, the brand has seen a steady sales decline. Well, you probably already know that RedOctane was the game’s original publisher until Activision decided to buy them out along with the Guitar Hero brand. And, it was most likely Activisions fault for there been so many Guitar Hero titles in such a short period of time.

Anyways, due to the decline in sales and their need to slow down releases, Activision has decided to shut down RedOctane for good.

Of course, Guitar Hero fans will still be able to pick up new titles, just not as many and RedOctane will have no part in it.

It seems that our friends over at Kotaku have recently received a gift from Capcom. No it wasn’t a game or anything like that. What it was, was a blue boxing glove with holding a rose. What could this mean?

Well, if you’ve played Street Fighter 3, you’ll know that a character named Dudley had blue boxing gloves and was frequently seen holding a rose.

You can make your own conclusions about what this means.

One of the finer Wii titles to be released during the last few months (according to our review, at least), No More Heroes 2, has reportedly not done well at the game stores. According to EEDAR, which tracks game sales, the title sold less than 30,000 units during its first week, and this is despite generally favorable and positive reviews, and despite so many Wii consoles out there. This is true to other mature Wii games as well, like MadWorld and Dead Space, both great games, but simply didn’t sell well.

PopCap, one of the most celebrated and successful developers/publishers over the past year, have spoken kindly of Apple’s upcoming iPad tablet. While it won’t happen instantly, PopCap co-founder John Vechey said that it might happen a few years down the line.

“I think it will change gaming. Here’s this new device that gets to more people with a really great e-commerce model attached to it. It’s really easy to buy on the iPhone – that’s part of what makes it successful.”

However, many techies around the world have dismissed the iPad as just a larger iPhone — which is probably the same reason PopCap is embracing it.

BioShock 2 featured a few bugs (read our review of the game) that are quite common among newly released games, the biggest of which is a widescreen issue. While that hasn’t been fixed (2K Marin are working on it, we’re told), a number of other issues have been fixed in a patch:

  • Fixed accepting a game invite on the Multiplayer Menu via Friend Invite causing a crash.
  • Fixed a black screen that would occur minimizing and restoring the game in Windows 7.
  • Fixed the ability to adopt or harvest Little Sisters after rebinding the ‘F’ or ‘B’ keys to Zoom, Fire or Fire Plasmid.
  • Fixed Big Daddy HUD elements remaining on screen when not appropriate.
  • Fixed an issue where the player’s plasmid hand would become unresponsive if they pressed the Next Plasmid key immediately after firing any chargeable plasmid (such as ElectroBolt 2).
  • Fixed a potential save file issue.
  • Fixed an issue where the resolution would change on its own if entering gameplay in a 16:10 resolution on a native 16:10 monitor.
  • Fixed a problem where if you were running the game in a resolution higher than your desktop resolution the mouse cursor wouldn’t be able to go across the whole screen.
  • Fixed an issue in Windows 7 where certain Radio messages could become scrambled or broken after defeating a Big Sister if Voice audio had been turned down or muted previously.
  • Fixed a crash while playing Dionysus Park on a 32-bit machine.
  • Fixed a crash that would occur sometimes loading a previous manual save made before any present QuickSave.
  • Fixed a crash while signing in to GFWL when running compatibility mode for XP SP2 while running Vista.
  • Fixed an issue where you couldn’t play audio diaries in certain areas.
  • Fixed a rare crash that could occur any time before a specific Big Sister sequence.

It’s been rumored for a while, and now it finally seems official: Alan Wake is an Xbox 360 exclusive. For good. As many remember, the title was a PC only game a few years ago, where Intel used it to showcase its new multi-core CPUs. Well, at least it’s confirmed and we don’t have to wonder any longer.

Rockstar has announced a pretty sweet deal for all those who are looking to get into the portable GTA universe: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is 30% off on the iPhone, and can be attained for only $7. It’s a pretty good deal if you ask us.

Developer Quantic Dream has always made deep, involved games, their last of which was Indigo Prophecy (otherwise known as Fahrenheit), and if you loved that kind of game and storytelling, you’ll most certainly love their next offering. Heavy Rain was one of the most anticipated PS3 games for years, and it’s certainly lives up to most of the hype.

Without digging too much into the story — and we won’t, because we certainly don’t want to give away anything — Heavy Rain is a deep game which centers around characters and relies a lot on the choices the player makes. However, when reading this review, keep in mind that since the game relies on the story a lot, and since we won’t give you any spoilers, it’s a bit tricky to do a review. But we’ll try anyway. Valve has announced that the first DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 is scheduled for release next month, and in even more pleasant news, the DLC will include a “passing” by the original L4D crew, as non playable characters, when the two groups meet in the new campaign, set in Georgia. The DLC will also include new Survival, Versus and Scavenge maps as well.
