Despite being an Original Xbox title, Halo 2 still has a strong community supporting it. To them, it was probably terrible news when Microsoft made the announcement that they would be pulling the online plug for Original Xbox titles come April 15th.
On an alternative note, if you recenetly tried to snag some Halo 2 maps from Xbox Live you may have noticed that you are unable to due so. This has lead most of the community to believe that Microsoft is already removing Original Xbox DLC from Xbox Live, leaving some users a big unhappy.
Luckily, Microsoft sent a notice to Joystiq that said this was an error and they are currently working to get the DLC back up until April 15th. Phew.

The entire entertainment industry, for the most part, is experimenting with 3D content. If you saw Avatar you’ll probably know that there was a version of the movie released in 3D. Well, this brings about the question over which major console manufacturer will be making the 3D jump first. That answer seems to be Sony.
Despite previously saying they have no plans to bring 3D to the PS3, the company has now said that a series of firmware updates will be released this summer that will bring 3D functionality to the console.
3D games sound pretty damn awesome. I wonder which developer will be the first to dip their toe in this emerging market.

If you’ve read anything about Tony Hawk Ride you’ll know that is, well, wasn’t very good. Sure, it was a cool concept but the execution was poor due to the controller being non responsive. However, it looks like the bad reviews haven’t stopped Activision from pushing forward as they have just announced that a brand new Tony Hawk game utilizing the board controller will be out this holiday season.
Activision’s CEO Mike Griffith basically said the first game wasn’t very good because they spent more time optimizing the hardware than they did the software. Whatever the case, let’s just hope the next game is much better.

Most of the iPhone games currently on the App Store aren’t exactly the most full fledged games on the market today. However, one game in particular really stands out and that is Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies. I’ve yet to see an iPhone game that really stays true to its console counterpart better than World at War: Zombies.
Anyways, the first DLC map for the game will be made available tomorrow. If you play the real World at War you may know of Verruckt, the same map that will be ported to the iPhone. The iPhone version of the map will stay true to the console version with player perks, new weapons and more.
Unfortunately, the map is going to cost you an additional $5 which is pretty ridiculous considering the game itself costs only $10. If you’re willing to part with the cash, check it out.

It seems like Modern Warfare 2 only just came out but that hasn’t stopped Activision and Treyarch from working on the next title. In fact, Activision exec Mike Griffith has recently said that this holiday season we will see the release of Call of Duty 7. However, there were absolutely no details given about what the game will contain.
MW2 addicts need not worry about being abandoned as Activision and Infinity Ward will still be supporting the game with new marketing efforts and, of course, loads of DLC.
Now, let the speculation over where CoD 7 will take place begin! Vietnam, anyone?

Have you gotten an invite to the Starcraft II beta? If so, you will be happy to hear that Blizzard’s president and co-founder, Mike Morhaime, has just announced that the closed beta will go live sometime this month:
“We’re slated to begin beta testing later this month. The beta test will be conducted on a global scale including thousands of testers from North America, Europe, Korea, Taiwan Australia, and New Zealand. We expect a tremendous response from our players and we’re eager to enter this stage of development as we enter the final stretch before release.”
Final stretch, huh? Although Starcraft II has yet to get an official release date, it’s pretty safe to say that “final stretch before the release” means it will be coming pretty soon.

What was one a growing epidemic has finally come to an end. Mike Morhaime, president of Blizzard, has recently took center stage to let us know that World of Warcraft‘s subscriber base has stood still at 11.8 million ever since late last year.
However, Morhaime doesn’t see the WoW coming to and end any time soon as he hopes the forthcoming release of Cataclysm will boost the subscriber base. Additionally, he let us know that Wrath of the Lich King has yet to drop in China so when it does that number will most likely also see a boost.

The Ghost Recon series has always stuck to the PC and the powerful consoles, but now Ubisoft has announced that the next game in the series will be on all platforms — a Wii version is in development at a different studio, as well as PSP and DS versions as well, in addition to the main Xbox 360 and PS3 juggernauts. However, there was no mention of a PC part.

We’ve previously reported that Assassin’s Creed 2 is expected to sell 8.5 million units by April, and now Ubisoft confirms that they’re on the right track; the game has shipped 8 million units worldwide to date. While this of course doesn’t mean it has sold 8 million, it means that it most likely will sell that amount in the coming months.
