assassinscreed2episodes

If you weren’t aware, Ubisoft is currently working on a third Assassin’s Creed title but it isn’t Assassin’s Creed III. Instead, it’s Assassin’s Creed II Episodes, a standalone kind of expansion that adds onto the original Assassin’s Creed II. While we knew that the game would be out sometime within the nextyear, we didn’t know much about the contents of said game.

Luckily, Ubisoft’s creative director Patrice Desilets and Assassin’s Creed’s lead writer Corey May have taken center stage at DICE to let us know more. First and foremost, the agme will have a brand new, full single-player campaign. However, in addition to that, it will have a brand new, fully functional multiplayer component.

Unfortunately, thats the extent of the information they were willing to give us so we’ll have to wait around until anything else is said.

Late last month we let you know that Heavy Rain would be getting some DLC that would allow players to control other characters. Unfortunately, GameStop has just let us know that the DLC will in fact be getting delayed. Previously included as a pre-order bonus, GameStop says due to problems with the publisher, the DLC won’t be made available until March 4th.

However, those of you over in the UK will still be getting Heavy Rain Chronicles on launch day. Lucky you.

Piracy is a problem with just about every console on the market today, and the PSP is no different. In fact, the ability to download games directly to a memory card and then load them up on a hacked PSP is sure to have Sony shaking their fists at pirates everywhere. With the release of the DLC only PSP Go, some thought that this problem would be remedied but, of course, pirates have found ways around the deterrent.

Well, the company has now taken additional measures for one of the portable console’s latest titles, SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo 3. This new measure requires the user to enter in a voucher that comes with the game to actually plat it online. Additionally, those who purchase a used game will actually have to pay an additional 20 bucks to get one of these vouchers because it’s only good for one PSP.

Will this work or be a failed attempt like EA’s Spore DRM ordeal? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

worms

Have you played Worms? If not, you’re missing out – Worms is a side scrolling turn-based shooter that has cartoon worms using a large arsenal of weapons to, well, blow each other sky high. The series itself has seen a great deal of success, spanning a large number of consoles and mobile platforms.

EA has evidentially made note of this, recently announcing that they have purchased the rights to publish Worms on mobile platforms.

Head of Team 17 (the studio behind Worms), Debbie Bestwick, had the following to say about EA’s purchase:

“As the market leader in mobile gaming, EA Mobile’s reach and breadth of partner relationships will massively help Worms’ positioning and greatly increase appeal to a new generation of mobile gamers.”

Halo-Reach

If you’ve been playing Halo ever since Combat Evolved, you’ll know that the number of in-game glitches present in Halo 3 was much lower than in the previous 2 games. This can most likely be attributed largely to the fact that the game had a beta which helped Bungie iron out all the kinks.

Well, Halo: Reach is set to have a beta too (which is probably the reason most of you bought ODST) but one on a much larger scale than Halo 3. In fact, Bungie estimates that over 3 million beta testers will be present for Halo: Reach which, if utilized correctly, will result in a very polished game. To put this in perspective, Halo 3 had just 800,000 beta testers.

If you’re one of the people looking to get down on the Reach beta, expect it sometime in May of this year.

When I was a bit younger, Dragon Ball Z and the entire Dragon Ball franchise in general was a hit. Sure, its popularity has died down a bit but that hasn’t stopped a whole slew of games based on said franchise from coming out. The latest of such games is Dragon Ball: Origins 2 for the Nintendo DS which we have included a trailer for you above.

Now, I have absolutely no idea what is going on in the trailer but the loud Japanese screaming mixed with some slick looking gameplay shots makes the game look like a sure win.

If you’re looking to pick Dragon Ball: Origins 2 up, expect it on store shelves sometime this summer.

You’re going to have to work with us on this one because details are currently very slim — Activision CEO Bobby Kotick recently t0ok center stage at DICE to tell everyone that the company will be holding an independent developer competition with “up to $500,000″ in prize money. However, Joystiq has received contrasting information that only $100,000 will be given out.

Either or, there are still no details on what the competition will entail but if any independent developers are reading this, get ready.

If you weren’t aware, Codemasters is currently working on an unannounced FPS title. No one knows what this title is to be like but that is all set to change very soon. It was recently made known that the new FPS title will be officially announced in the Official PlayStation Magazine next month.

What we do know about the title, however, is that it is being made by the masterminds behind the PS2 title Black and that it will run on Codemasters’ Ego game engine.

Check back sometime next month and we’ll have the full lowdown for you.

civilizationv

Those looking for a continuation to Sid Meier’s Civilization series will be happy to hear that Civilization V is due out for the PC this fall.

Civilization V is said to feature some exciting features such as a new game engine and hexagon tiles bringing a new level of realism to the game. Sid Meier himself actually came forth to comment on the new game:

“Each new version of Civilization presents exciting challenges for our team. Thankfully, ideas on how to bring new and fun experiences to Civ players never seem to stop flowing. From fully animated leaders and realistic landscapes, new combat tactics, expanded diplomacy and shared mods, we’re excited for players to see the new vision our team at Firaxis has brought to the series.”

And best of all, seeing as it is 2010, Civilization V will feature a plethora of community based components. Anyone anxiously awaiting this?
