Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package review

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most played online shooters, and DLC has always been a good seller for the Call of Duty franchise. With “Stimulus Package” for Modern Warfare 2, the DLC brings 5 new maps, including two popular maps from the original Modern Warfare. For $15, it’s quite an expensive map pack, but is it worth the money? Read on to find out.

First of all, $15 is a lot to justify only five maps, and when two of them are remakes from Modern Warfare 1, the deal is looking even worse. And quite frankly, it is. While the maps are good in and of themselves — they’ll certainly satisfy MW2 junkies — the price tag is a bit too hard to swallow. So what do you get for $15?

You get three new maps, Storm, based in a warehouse location, Bailout, set in an apartment complex, and Salvage, which is set in a salvage yard and is clearly the most uninspired of the three. The maps are all well balanced and easy to figure out, that’s not to say they are simple, but if you’re used to MW2′s maps, you’ll feel right at home. The two remake maps, Overgrown and Crash, will certainly be appreciated by fans of the first game — they’re just as cool and just as popular as they were two years ago.

However, considering that you’re spending $15 — a quarter of the price for a retail game — the Stimulus Package isn’t that good of a deal for three new maps. Even $10 would’ve been pushing it, and it’s clear that Activision is trying to see just how far they can push the envelope. But if you’re a die hard MW2 player and wish to relive the old maps in particular, you’ve probably already bought the DLC. If you’re not an MW2 junkie and only play occasionally, skip this DLC, or wait until it goes on sale.
