heavyrain

Heavy Rain is a beautifully developed game but due to its unusual game play many wondered whether it would manage to produce high sales numbers or not. Well, those who doubted the game can now lay that doubt to rest as it was just announced that it has surpassed 1,000,000 copies sold worldwide since its February release.

What’s even better is David Cage, the mastermind behind Heavy Rain, estimates an additional 500,000 copies will be sold by years end.

I think it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing a Heavy Rain 2.

Back in the beginning of February we notified you of a delay for Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter. At that point, we weren’t sure what exactly the release date had been changed to but now we know that it will hit but the PC on April 28th. It’s also slated to hit the Xbox Live Arcade at some point but there’s been no mention of a release date.

If you didn’t know, this is a high definition remake of the game that was released back in February of 2002 by the same name, minus the HD.

stimuluspackage

The fact that the Xbox 360 gained exclusivity for the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package launch had PC and PS3 gamers shaking their fists at Infinity Ward as there was no release date for their version of the DLC. Well luckily, it was just announced that the PS3 and PC will be getting the Stimulus Package on May 4th.

There’s not much else to say other than that; 5 new maps, $15 bucks. Got it?

It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen a Gears of War game which has led many to speculate that Gears of War 3 would be announced soon. Well, we don’t have an official announcement for you but instead we have some rumors (oh joy).

Anyways, Edge tells us that Gears 3 will feature underwater game play, new weapons that travel underground and revamped enemies. New weapons and enemies seems like a given but underwater game play? I can’t wait to see how that gets implemented if the rumors are true.

Mass Effect 2′s second DLC, Katsumi – Stolen Memory, centers around Kasumi Goto, the master thief in the galaxy. She’s got a new mission, and for that, she’ll need the help of commander Shepard and co. This is the first paid DLC for Mass Effect 2, so there are some expectations to it. But considering that the $7 DLC runs less than an hour, you may not get much for your money. However, it still offers the same, tried and tested gameplay for those who have exhausted everything Mass Effect 2 has to offer.

The mission plays out like most other loyalty missions and is just as approachable, and throughout the mission, you’ll see just as much action as before. However, sadly there is only one new weapon (an SMG), and no new enemies, which exactly where that kind of stuff should be: in (paid) DLC. On top of that, Kasumi Goto, however cool her name sounds, isn’t really interesting as the principal Mass Effect 2 cast. However, the story and the setting makes up for the rather bleak character.

The mission itself sees a brief stealth part — Katsumi is a thief, nonetheless — where you’ll be sneaking through security, which is an interesting, albeit brief new feature. However, you’ll quickly be blasting your way, Mass Effect 2 style, of course. While the DLC features the usual high production values of BioWare’s Mass Effect 2, it’s hard to justify paying $7 for an extra mission which can be completed in an hour and which offers no replay value. Ultimately, it’s a DLC for those who have completed everything Mass Effect 2 has to offer, and are still interested in playing some more.

The Good:
Interesting story
Easy to get into

The Bad:
No new weapons/enemies
Too familiar to other missions
Way too short for its price

Overall score: 5/10

ipad

It’s obvious that the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad is becoming an increasingly popular portable gaming platform. Apple is now taking the next logical step and announcing a service that will tie everything together entitled the Game Center. This social networked game service will feature leader boards, matchmaking and of course a full friends system that will be available to support pretty much any game developed for the platform.

This is just one of the 7 features announced today during the iPhone OS 4 keynote. You can watch the whole thing here.

If you’re currently in South Korea with a Google Android powered device you better get ready for some bad news — Due to conflicts with the South Korean government, Google is being forced to remove every single game from the Android Marketplace. The reason for this being that the South Korean doesn’t want any games made available that they haven’t rated beforehand.

Pretty lame but Apple was forced to do the same not too long ago.

No, Team Need for Speed is not a new racing game coming out of EA but instead an actual, real-life racing team. The team will feature drivers such as Mad Mike Whiddett and Matt Powers who will race for Team Need for Speed in both the European Formula D and VLN Series.

What’s even better is EA will be documenting the whole thing and release a 12-part series based on it. Sounds cool.

If you’re one of the few PC FPS players who have yet to try out Modern Warfare 2 you’ll be glad to hear that Steam is offering the multiplayer component of the game free of charge for an entire weekend. The promotion will begin this Thursday, April 8th and you can pre-load the content right now.

Of course Modern Warfare 2 still doesn’t have dedicated servers which may be a deal breaker for a lot of PC gamers.
