Movie tie-ins are nothing new, especially when it comes to animated features with a large appeal, like the upcoming Despicable Me. The video game version will be shipping early July on Despicable Me Wii, DS, PS2 and PSP — and indeed, it appears that the big consoles PS3 and Xbox 360 will have to wait to get the game.
Ah, remember those old school GameBoy cartridges? ‘Member how nicely they slide in at the back of the GameBoy? Well, now soap maker The Pink Toque, which does custom soaps (there’s a market for that, really), has made soaps shaped like the old games. You can get a NES and Super Nintendo soap for $6.50, or a Game Boy soap for $2. Now get clean!
Sony is pushing 3D gaming on the PS3, and 3D in general, pretty hard. However, according to a recent statement from Sony’s Ian Bickerstaff, who revealed that the 3D games showcased at GCD 2010 were downgraded from 1080p to 720p, games like WipeOut. The PS3 is not powerful enough — or optimized — to project two different 1080p frames to each eye to create a 3D effect. Instead, two 720 frames are used.
For native 720p games like MotorStorm, the 3D version was scaled down even more, to standard-def graphics. For Motorstorm, the developers used the technology from the split screen mode in the game, which renders two different environments at the same time. Motorstorm in 3D then projects two 480p images for the left and right eye.
Sony expects to optimize the technology to offer a full 1080p resolution, but there’s a lot of optimization to be done, since the games will have to deliver twice the amount of frames per second to be in 3D and in the same resolution.
Whether Sony can do this without sacrificing image quality remains to be unknown. One solution would be to have the regular, 2D mode with image quality running at the highest setting, and when 3D is used, image quality would be scaled back in order to provide twice the amount of frames.
I don’t know about you guys but ever since the Skate 3 demo hit, I’ve been hooked. Well, EA has come forth and released a new trailer for the game, this time showing a different side of Skate.
All I can say is the above video is pretty much filled with all sorts of carnage but you’ll have to watch it to understand for yourself.
Skate 3 will be out on May 11th for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
The massive RTS game RUSE has been delayed again, believe it or not, for the fourth time. This time, the developer cites a new date: September 2010. The delay comes after a completed beta gave the dev team a lot to work with. Actually, we appreciate that they’re taking their time to produce a quality game.
Modern Warfare 2′s Stimulus Package, the overpriced pace of DLC, will be hitting Steam for PC users on May 4, for the same, ripe price of $15. You can read our review of the DLC here.
Apparently, Activision is set for a remake of GoldenEye 007, one of the finest FPS games ever made. The company has now registered goldeneyegame.com, which indicates that they’re working on a remake, and not just a re-release of the 1998 classic.
With all of the Super Mario Galaxy 2 media dropping left and right, it’s pretty evident that the game is shaping up to be one of the best Mario titles as of late. Today, we have a new, brief video for you (included above) that shows off the classic side-scrolling action that is the be included with the game.
I’m guilty of buying a Wii and pretty much never playing it again after I finished Zelda and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, I think Super Mario Galaxy 2 may give me reason to blow dust off the Wii and pick it up on May 23rd, 2010.
Ever since Activision axed the co-founders of Infinity Ward, a new studio called Respawn Entertainment has been gaining the ranks. However, if you’ve been paying attention you already know that.
What we’re here to tell you is a new heavy hitting employee has left Infinity Ward for Respawn; Todd Alderman. This guy was the Lead Game Designer for Infinity Ward which means he probably had a great of influence over the studio’s hardest hitting title, Modern Warfare 2.
I’m itching to know what Respawn Entertainment will come up with, what about you guys?
