Yep, in Gears of War 3, you’ll be able to play as the Berserker, one of the most frightening enemies you can face as a member of the Gears squad.
We really dunno what to say about CTA’s PS3 controller — since you can’t point it at the TV and use at as one would, what’s the point of it?
EA rebooted the Command & Conquer franchise with Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, where they tried something new, a new way of playing the RTS game. However, by doing so, they fundamentally changed what made C & C great in the first place.
In Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, the gameplay has been changed drastically. For one, base building is almost gone. You don’t need harvesters to gather Tiberium. You don’t need to build power plants for you base. In fact, most of what made C & C tactic in terms of base building, resource management etc., has been eliminated. Instead, we get a mere top-down action game like Dawn of War — which Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight clearly tries to imitate. In Tiberian Twilight, it’s all about quickly building units, capturing points and moving on.
The whole notion of “base” is also different, as you’ll have a giant, mobile base which moves on alongside the battlefield, chugging out new units and so on. It’s the only building, and does everything from research to production. Yes, C & C fans beware: something is really wrong in Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight. This means the pace of the game has increased substantially, it’s basically Blitzkrieg 24/7. Online, the multiplayer part is the only thing that manages to positively surprise. But it still features the frustrating gameplay and lack of polish that the short campaign does.
To put it mildly, it’s shocking that EA resorted to this. Blatantly copying Dawn of War and similar games, and completely neglecting what made Command & Conquer great over the past 15 years is surprising, to say the least. If you ever wanted a quick lesson on ruining a franchise, look no further than Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight.
The Good:
Fast gameplay — if you’re into that
Decent multiplayer
The Bad:
Destroys the good old C & C formula
Lacks polish
Frustrating gameplay
Overall score: 3/10
