When Microsoft unveiled the new Xbox 360 at E3, many, including ourselves, were interested in replacing. The latest Left 4 Dead 2 DLC is “The Passing”, which features a new twist: the new survivors cross path with the survivors from the original game, and while this may have resulted in a cool feature like the two groups fighting together, Valve mostly uses it as a way of telling the story. Nothing wrong there, but we would’ve wished a bit more.

Mission wise, there are now 3 missions instead of the usual 5 per new campaign, and the new missions can be completed in about 30 minutes. But it’s not necessarily bad that it’s short — what it lacks in length it more than makes up in quality, fun and tense action. The new gun in the game is the famous M60, but it can’t be reloaded so you’re forced to use it strategically instead of just mowing down everything (and you can certainly do that). The new melee weapon is a simple and effective golf club.

The new enemies are more interesting. Called “Fallen Survivors”, they’re previous survivors which haven’t yet mutated fully into zombies, and they’re carrying weapons which you can collect after you take them out. Game play is still just as hectic as before, and still relies heavily on teamwork — of course it does, it’s Left 4 Dead after all. Same can be said about production values and atmopshere, Valve keeps the high standard in this DLC, even though it’s free on PC. Xbox 360 will have to fork over $6 to play it. Overall, a great addition for a great shooter, even though Xbox 360 owners don’t get much for their money in terms of content (which should’ve been free).

What was arguably one of the more interesting Xbox Live experiences, and what set the service apart from others, is the 1 vs 100 game. Too bad Microsoft just cancelled it.

Now THQ has released Star Wars: Battle For Hoth to the iPhone. The game costs only $3 bucks, but we don’t really know how much you’ll get for your money.
