Monday Night Combat review
Monday Night Combat is one of those games that tries something innovative, both in terms of gameplay and style. And for once, we have a game that actually delivers what it promises.
Monday Night Combat can best be described as a mix between Team Fortress 2, Tower Defense, and a regular co-op shooter. Your purpose is to guide and defend your “moneyball” to its destination through an arena, while attacking the opponents moneyball. You get to guide a bunch of AI controlled bots which will attack the opponents moneyball, white you also have to build and upgrade turrets to defend your own. Of course, this is easier said than done, and most definitely better to play with as many friends as you can. For more details on how the mechanic works, check out the video below:
There are six classes to chose from, each of course, is different and has has several advantages and disadvantages. There are those for heavy combat, those for long range combat (snipers), and those for support. It’s an evenly balanced class-system, and works well. There are two modes, Crossfire, where two teams of six players duel it out, fighting over each other’s moneyball. The other mode, Blitz, is a co-op mode where four players fight off hordes of bots, kinda mimicking the mode in Borderlands, and feels like a third-person tower defense game — which is cool in an of itself. However, the limited amount of maps (4) limits the longevity of the game, even though the maps present are well thought out and find to play.
Overall, Monday Night Combat offers some interesting and new gameplay and stands out from other competitive multiplayer shooters. Enough to give it a try.
The Good:
Innovative new multiplayer
Feels polished
Fun to play
The Bad:
Only two modes
Limited maps
Would be more fun with more players
Overalls score: 8/10
