When every big Hollywood movie gets a game tie-in, the results are often bad. Especially when it comes to movies which are themselves nothing special. Like Clash of The Titans. And just like the movie, the game adaptation disappoints.
The game sticks to the movie on almost every beat, and you follow the same story of Perseus and his quest to overthrow the rulers of Olympus, the good old Greek Gods. You’ll be doing this through a number of missions, which usually involve you hacking and slashing your way through hordes of repetitive enemies, then beat the boss, and then move on to the next mission, which is pretty much the same. The game does offer some depth, most noticeably with items you can collect and weapons you can upgrade. However, these things don’t have any major impact on the gameplay, and after an hour of doing either, it just becomes repetitive like the rest of the game.
The campaign lasts 20 hours — quite lengthy by video game standards, but when most of it is repetitive, you get bored after four to five hours, which is exactly the case with Clash of The Titans. On top of the repetitive gameplay, there are two things that drag: the camera, which never seems to catch up with you, and the visuals, which are almost last-gen like — even after the current generation has been around for almost half a decade now. The production values themselves are lacking, especially on the cut scene and voice acting end.
Overall, Clash of The Titans is a poor and underdeveloped tie-in to a movie which itself was poor and underdeveloped (especially if you saw it in 3D).
Kmart, the always thorn in the eye of Walmart, has a great deal for potential PS3 owners: a 250 GB PS3 slim for $300 — $50 less than usual. Not a bad deal, considering that the 120 GB costs the same.
