EA has proudly announced that the latest iteration in their soccer franchise, FIFA 11, has sold 2.6 million copies, making it the fastest selling sports game of all time. EA says the sales are a 30% improvement over last year’s FIFA, and that it already has grossed an estimated $150 million.
BioWare has announced that the upcoming Dragon Age 2 will have the ability to not just import the savegames from the original game, but import “the world” as well. You won’t actually be able to import your character, but you’ll be able to import the other NPC, as BioWare’s Mike Laidlaw puts it, “Who’s in charge of Ferelden, what happened with the Dwarves, who’s running Orzammar? All of these things are reflected and accounted for in Dragon Age 2″. Indeed.
The streaming gaming service OnLive has had some issues in gaining a large user base, mostly, it’s been a cost and not technology based one. For one, users had to pay a $15 monthly fee, and on top of that, pay for the games. Now OnLive has realized that that setup kinda sucks, and they’ve removed the monthly subscription charge, now, only have to pay for the game you play on OnLive. Not bad.
Activision has revealed that their upcoming Call of Duty Black Ops will support 3D gaming, not just on the PC and PS3, but Xbox 360 as well, as Activision demonstrated the 3D capabilities to the press a few days ago. Of course, you’re required a 3D TV set and glasses, and if you’re on the PC, a 3D monitor, and preferably Nvidia’s 3D solution, which seems to be the most developed on the PC platform.
Gearbox has announced that their upcoming Borderlands Game of The Year edition will not only include lots of DLC, but it’ll have something else as well: early access to the Duke Nukem Forever demo. The GOTY edition will come with a code to download the demo prior to anyone else, however, it’s not mentioned exactly when that’ll happen.
Despite some rumors that the latest World of Warcraft expansion will be delayed till 2011, Blizzard has announced that WoW Cataclysm will hit the store shelves on December 7, 2010. The game will be available both in retail and digitally, for $40. If you’re a huge WoW fan, you might be interested in the collector’s edition, which includes an art book, DVD commentary, soundtrack CD, mouse pad, and World of Warcraft trading cards. That’s set you back $80.
Movies based on videogames say two things: Hollywood has few original ideas, and two, they expect gamers to flog to the theaters of they see a movie based on their favorite game, regardless of how much said game sucks. Which is why production company L+E Productions, which was the company behind the Hitman movie, which was, as you know, based on a game. And, as you know, kinda sucked.
Valve has announced that its zombie-slaying survival horror game Left 4 Dead 2 will be coming to the Mac platform on October 5, which happens to be tomorrow. If you previously purchased it on the PC, you can play it on the Mac as well. As for Left 4 Dead 1, Valve says it will find its way to the Mac before the end of the month.
The team behind Assassin’s Creed created a spoof on the popular comedy show The Office, where they pretended to be a bunch of dysfunctional, incompetent, office workers, no, developers.
Bungie has announced that they’ve reset the stats and ranks for some 15,000 Halo Reach players, because they cheated the system in order to gain more XP. Specifically, Bungie says the reset players were using “an exploit that allowed players to complete a Challenge 20+ times via intentional network manipulation (i.e., disconnects.).”. Bungie is working to patch the exploit, and hasn’t ruled out on resetting even more players over the issue.
