Microsoft: Xbox 360 faceplates were a failure

December 17th, 2010
Remember the faceplates on the old Xbox 360? Yeah, we barely remember them as well. Microsoft initially offered a variety of colorful and artistic faceplates for the white Xbox 360, thinking people would like to customize their Xbox 360. But apparently nobody was interested, as Microsoft Microsoft’s Albert Penello said:

“The idea wasn’t bad … people used to put faceplates on their cell phones. Rewind five years, faceplates were what everybody wanted to do. Turned out nobody bought it. So [we stopped] making them. We killed that one pretty quickly.”

Yeah, we were always wondering how faceplates were gone within the first 12 months of the launch of the Xbox 360. Not that we were every interested in zebra stripes on our 36.
