Microsoft: no plans for Kinect firmware
We recently reported that Microsoft was rumored to be working on a new Kinect firmware which could quadruple the resolution of its motion tracking camera, but now Microsoft has come out and denied this — they’re not making any firmware. Microsoft told CVG:
“We’re constantly working to expand and improve on experiences for Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE. However, this rumor is completely unsubstantiated.”
This doesn’t mean that they won’t eventually release firmware to improve Kinect, but maybe just not the quadrupling of resolution as rumored. Which did seem a bit too much, anyway.
