Every respective video game console has their own set of exclusives with some being more popular than others. For quite some time, one of Sony’s biggest PlayStation exclusives was none other than Tomb Raider. This franchise has spawned countless titles not to mention a major motion picture. Unfortunately, the franchise has somewhat died off as of late due to lackluster titles but if you’re looking to relive its glory days, you’re in luck.

Sony has come forth to announce that the Tomb Raider Trilogy will be hitting the PlayStation Network on March 22nd in all of its remastered HD glory. Not only will this feature 3 different Tomb Raider titles but it will also feature a PS3 theme and two different PlayStation Home Avatars: both Lara Croft and a Viking Thrall.

Sony’s PSP hasn’t exactly had the smoothest road with the console as a whole never really catch on as much as Nintendo’s Nintendo DS. However, Sony forged ahead and went on to release the optical drive-less PSP Go which featured a large internal hard drive for the storage of games. Prior to its release it seemed like a good buy but once on the market consumers realized that having a device that only worked with the cloud wasn’t exactly the best as there were no used game or game sales.

Luckily, for those of you willing to do a bit of hacking some modders have managed to release a “Homebrew Enabler” that will allow you to run games that were only previously released on the PSP’s proprietary UMD format. Check out above video to see it in action where Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep is loaded using the Prometheus ISO Loader program.

One of the coolest features of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Kinect is its ability to manipulate a user interface. If you’ve used the system you’re sure to know that you can scroll through menus and make selections all by waving your hands in the air. However, due to the fact that the Kinect is still somewhat new, not all Xbox 360 applications have been able to benefit from it.

Luckily, now that CES is upon us we’re able to learn of new features coming to the Kinect ecosystem in the coming months. According to a recent announcement at this year’s CES, Kinect support will be coming to both Netflix and Hulu Plus sometime this spring. This, quite evidently, means that you’ll be able to scroll through menus and make your selection all with your hands.

Now that’s the future.

Kinect is causing quite a bit of buzz not only for the innovative game play it brings to the Xbox 360 but for the whole slew of hacking that is associated with it as well. However, while there are a decent amount of games currently available for the Kinect, Microsoft has a whole other ecosystem in store that utilizes the technology dubbed Avatar Kinect.

If you couldn’t have guessed by the name, this new system allows you to utilizes both your Xbox 360 Avatar and Kinect system to hang out with your friends, chat it up and have a party – no, I’m not kidding. If you don’t believe me just check out the above trailer where an Avatar version of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer shows off the Avatar Kinect system as it tracks eyebrow movement, smiles, laughter and much more.

Is this something that interests you or will it be another flop like PlayStation Live?

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 home video game console is one of the most popular right up there with the Nintendo Wii and Sony PS3. Of course, that’s no secret but the success of the recently released Kinect motion controller may be much less known. Many doubted that the Kinect would catch on while wondering how consumers would react to the fact that it is a completely controllerless set-up. Well, it seems that the Kinect is proving itself to be a hit as word has just gotten out that Microsoft has already sold 8 million units in just 60 days on the market.

With only a launch line up of games currently available, it’s going to be interesting to see how Kinect matures overtime. With the motion sensing 3D camera, the possibilities are virtually endless so it’s up to game developers to really make the platform shine.

A few days ago, the PlayStation 3 private cryptography key was broken by the same hacker group which broke the Wii, and now the first custom PS3 firmware has been released, which allows of the installation of Linux OS. If you’re interested, you can find the firmware here.

Sony has yet to comment on this, as it appears the PS3 has finally been hacked, 4 years after its release. The key will allow for custom firmware to be released, which will make it possible to play pirated games, install custom operating systems, among other things.

THQ and toy maker Mattel have reached a licensing agreement where THQ will get a shot at making video games based on Mattel’s IP — like video game adaptations of Masters of the Universe.

Most of the licensed stuff is from the 80s and appears mostly suited for games made for a younger audiences, as the license includes Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price, Polly Pocket and some others. But at least we get a chance of seeing Masters of the Universe in video game form.
