Call of Duty is one of the most popular FPS titles on the streets with its online multiplayer component finding its way into homes across the world. In the past, we’ve heard Activision CEO Bobby Kotick express his displease that his company wasn’t receiving any money from the likes of Xbox Live or PSN despite the fact that Call of Duty was one of the most played games. This led analysts to believe that Activision would begin charging users seperately just to play Call of Duty online.
We hadn’t heard about this rumor for quite some time but today the pot has been stirred once again with talks of a pay to pay model quickly approaching for Call of Duty. These rumors come from analytical firm Wedbush Morgan who say Activision could be planning to launch this new model as early as this year.
It would be interesting to see how quickly the game’s online presence would drop or what benefits Activision would give paying customers. On top of the Xbox Live charge, I know I definitely wouldn’t be paying to play Call of Duty online, would you?
Pokemon is one of the most well known game franchises in the world with their highly popular set of portable games selling millions. However, while the games started off quite simple (not to mention 2D) the franchise has come quite a ways since. The latest titles, Pokemon Black & White, are quickly approaching with a March 6th North American launch.
In lieu of this quickly approaching release date, a new trailer has hit the streets which we’ve included for your viewing pleasure above. Luckily, this time around, the trailer is in English so those of you who can’t speak Japanese won’t have any problem following along.
Tiger Woods may be dropping sponsors left and right but EA Sports has stuck with him. Many have wondered if the company would drop him in favor of another golfer but it seems that they are pressing on with their Tiger Woods PGA Tour series going on to announce that the next title in the series, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: Masters, will be hitting store shelves for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii on March 29th.
What’s interesting to note from the above box art is the fact that Masters is much more highlighted than Tiger Woods’ name. Could this be the first step towards the phasing out of Mr. Woods from EA Sports highly successful golf game? We’ll have to wait and see.
It’s no secret Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo are the three big video game console manufacturers with the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, respectively, but one company is looking to give the three a run for their money. This company is none other than OnLive which is working to give consumers the ability to stream games over a high speed broadband connection for a cheap price.
However, in order to actually get the streaming games off your computer and onto your big screen youo’re going to need to pick up the OnLive game console pictured above. Complete with a built-in HDMI port, the OnLive game console is compatbile not only with the standard OnLive controller but any other controller that works through USB including the official Xbox 360 controller.
Normally this device sells for $99 but in lieu of CES 2011, OnLive will be dropping the price of the game console $33 down to just $66. If you’re looking to get down on this deal you better do so fast as it only runs through January 9th.
It’s becoming increasingly more often that you hear about independent game developers making it big but Minecraft really stands out above the rest. Time and time again this open-world title has made headlines not only for its innovative gameplay but also for its massive sales numbers. However, despite the fact that Minecraft has been immensely popular thus far, no one could have thought just how popular it would really be.
The game’s creator Notch has come forth to let us know that the game is nearing 1,000,000 units sold. As of this writing, it’s at about 950,000 units sold so it will be interesting to see how long it takes for the additional 50,000 units to make their way into the hands of consumers.
Better yet, Notch has said that Minecraft will be getting an update sometime this week that will add even more content to the already expansive game.
A few months ago, APB developer Realtime Worlds was shut down and all its assets were sold off, including APB, the cause of all the trouble for Realtime Worlds. APB was acquired by GamersFirst, who promised to bring back the game at some point in the future.
Well, we’re now certain that they’re serious, as the beta for the rebirth of APB, called APB Reloaded, will commence next month as a closed eta — you can sign up here.
When it comes to racing wheels, the official Gran Turismo 5 racing wheel from Thrustmaster might just take the cake. As you can see, the thing is huge and features everything you need for a great pro session of GT5. It should, because the racing wheel, officially called the Thrustmaster T500RS, retails for $600.
Nintendo DS has always been the a popular consoles, even since it was first introduced half a decade ago. And it has sold steadily ever since, eventually topping 47 million units sold in the US, making it the best selling console in the country, surpassing the PS2.

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most iconic video game series of all time resting up there with the likes of Zelda, Donkey Kong and Mario. However, die-hard fans of the series haven’t been terribly impressed with the games Sega has pushed out as of late. One thing these particular fans have been interested in, however, is Sonic 2 HD – an unofficial remake of the ever-so-popular Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
While the release of this remake has been uncertain (due to obvious copyright and trademark issues) the game’s teaser site has been updated to let us know that in 12 days, a big announcement will be coming soon. What announcement this is exactly we aren’t sure. Lets just hope it’s an announcement that SEGA has bought the project and will release it for all.
If you’re an RPG fan you’ve undoutedbly heard of (and most likely put countless hours into) the Elder Scrolls series. Starting with Morrowind the game took a turn for the better and introduced (for the time) amazing graphics wrapped around the same gameplay we’ve come to know and love from titles like Daggerfall. However, now that Oblivion is on the streets and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is just around the corner, Morrowind is looking quite dated.
Luckily, a dedicated developer by the name of Warwon have taken the time to produce the Morrowind 2011 mod. What does this mod do, you ask? Well, as you can see from the above video it replaces the various textures and other environmental objects making for a truly incredible scene. It will be interesting to see how this updated version of Morrowind competes with Skyrim.
Unfortunately, the mod is not yet available for download but you can follow along with its development at the official site here.
