Id Software has released a brand new Rage trailer, called “2011 trailer”, not the most original title, but it does show a lot of Rage gameplay, and at this point, we really think it looks like Borderlands. Only better. The game is slated for release later this year.

Dead Space was a great success due to its creepy atmosphere and wacky gameplay (like shooting the limbs off your foes). Now the sequel is here, and we’re grateful to say that it continues in the footsteps of the original, and adds a bit more here and there.

Dead Space 2 is set three years after the original, and you still play as Isaac Clarke and your job is to find the item that chugs out all those creepy monsters and destroy it, once and for all. The missions are very linear and are set up in a way that you always know what to do and where to go, and while this is usually a bad thing in games these days, in Dead Space 2, because of its atmosphere, the linear gameplay are ripe for scares and some claustrophobic gameplay — and it takes advantage of it to the full extent. The campaign has more scares, sicker enemies, and better weapons than before, so it’s safe to say that in that respect, it’s better than the previous game. The gameplay remains unchanged from the original game: it’s a third person survival horror game, and it usually switches between navigating dark and haunted corridors, and between surviving a horde of enemies. Both of these offer their own kind of suspense, and are varied throughout the game for maximum tension.

This time around, there’s a multiplayer part but above all, it seems like a run of the mill kind of thing, with the usual modes and not much originality. It’ll satisfy you for a few hours, but is nowhere near the quality and suspense level of the campaign, which is one of the best survival horror campaigns we’ve ever played — right up there in Resident Evil territory. Visually, the game looks great, although not that better than the previous game and it certainly won’t be winning tech awards, but it’s absolutely great at creating an atmosphere, the most important thing in a horror game.

Overall, Dead Space 2 is one of the best survival horror shooters we’ve played, and while it has its flaws (too linear gameplay, boring objectives), it’s a must have for fans of the genre.

The Good:
Creepy atmosphere
Satisfying gameplay
Great and scary campaign

The Bad:
Campaign is too linear
Multiplayer isn’t anything special

Overall score: 9/10

Got some time to spare and bored with all of your games? Well then do the best next thing: watch a movie about games. We just noticed that SnagFilms has gotten their hands on a documentary called GAMERS.

Below is a synopsis of the movie:

“GAMERS is a documentary film that follows filmmaker Ben Gonyo into the world of MMO style video games and the World of Warcraft. Having not played video games for nearly ten years, a lot of things have changed since Ben last picked up a controller. Ben dives headfirst into a whole new genre of video games called MMORPG’s, which he describes as, ‘living in a movie.’ In this humorous yet informative documentary, viewers will learn what these games are, where they came from, how they’re made and what it takes to conquer a virtual world.”

I’ve yet to check it out but definitely will be doing so later tonight as SnagFilms offers the video completely free of charge. Want to check it out yourself? Head here and let the streaming begin: http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/gamers/.

Social game behemoth Zynga apparently wants to block every game on Facebook that contains the word “ville” in it, and they’ve sent a cease and desist letter to Blingville LLC, makers of the Blingville Facebook game.

Blingville has responded by sending a letter to the court, seeking a declaration Blingville doesn’t infringe on Zynga’s trademarks. Zynga has, apparently, trademarked “ville” in use for any social game.
