The final piece of news from Nintendo’s event was the price and date of the North American launch: the 3DS will launch in North America on March 27, 2011, and will retail for $250.
The 3DS will include a few built-in augmented reality games, in addition to a lot of geeky features, like a pedometer which tracks your steps. There will be a handful of launch titles available, headlined by the 3D remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
As expected, the 3DS will be launching in Europe on March 25 and will retail for 350 Euro, or 230 pound sterling in the UK. The launch will be just 2 days earlier than the US launch, while the price is a bit steeper because of the current exchange rate. The games available on launch day are yet to be announced, we’ll keep you posted.
Nintendo just wrapped up their press event regarding the 3DS, and they’ve announced a few things, confirmed some other things, and they’ve given us some number to chew on. For instance, the “launch window” for the 3DS will include 30 titles. The launch window is defined from the launch of the 3DS, March 27, and to June 7. We got more 3DS news coming right up!
Ever since the Wii was first released game developers have been scrambling to get the best fitness games possible onto the market utilizing the console’s motion controller. Ubisoft is one game developer that has taken advantage of this even coming forth today to announced Fit in Six. This game will be made available for both the PlayStation 3 and Wii giving players the opportunity to work their core, upper body, lower body, cardio balance and flexibility.
The Wii version will require a special USB camera to actually work which will come bundled with the game where as the PlayStation 3 will need nothing more than the PlayStation Move motion controller.
No word on how much the Wii bundle will cost but Ubisoft promises Fit in Six will be on store shelves this March. Check out the above trailer and let us know what you think.
We’ve heard of the Nintendo 3DS quite a bit in the past including its glasses-free 3D screen, 3D camera and more. However, as of late, the portable console has come under some fire due to reports that the glasses-free screen actually causes eye strain which can be harmful to younger uses. Well, Japanese magazine Friday recently posted a report that says after a Nintendo World 3DS testing event the majority of users suffered dizziness and eye fatigue. Even more so, users switched from 3D to 2D within just 10 minutes of gameplay.
So does this mean the Nintendo 3DS’ main selling point is actually going to cause more discomfort than pleasure? We wont’ know for sure until we actually play with one ourselves when it hits store shelves this March.
Final Fantasy is one of the most recognizable games within the RPG genre with offerings spanning over 2 decades and countless consoles. The most recently released game is Final Fantasy XIII which was met with generally positive reception. In fact, it seems that the reception was positive enough that Square Enix will be going on to release Final Fantasy XIII-2, a direct continuation of the game as they did with Final Fantasy X.
While this has yet to be confirmed, we just got word of a leaked trailer (included above) alongside a screen shot and title card (included below). No word on when this game will hit store shelves but as always we’ll keep you posted.
Last year, Valve debuted Portal 2 at Sony’s E3 press conference and said that Portal 2 on the PS3 would be “special”. Now we know what that entails: the PS3 version will support cross platform play with PC and Mac users, where players will be able to play together, chat etc. Furthermore, owners of Portal 2 for PS3 will get a free voucher for the game on Steam, if they link their PSN and Steam accounts. Not a bad deal.
We previously reported about the Gear of War bundle which was slated for release in February, and now we can confirm that Epic Games and Microsoft will release the pack on February 15, and will retail for just $30.
Called Gears of War Triple Pack”, it includes the first Gears of War, Gears of War 2, and Gears of War 2: All Fronts Pack. If you haven’t played Gears thus far, this is a great way to start.
According to a new report, Nintendo will have 400,000 3DS consoles for the Japanese launch of the new 3D capable DS. Nintendo plans to manufacture 4 million 3DS consoles before March, and 1.5 million of those are slated for Japan, with 400,000 available on launch.
Which seems to be on the low side, considering Nintendo sells quite a lot during their new hardware launches. Japanese retailers advise gamers to pre-order the console if they want certainty of having one on launch day.
Polyphony Digital, developers of Gran Turismo 5, have announced that Gran Turismo Anywhere is expected to be released in early February — but it will be released under a new name: Gran Turismo Remote Races.
In Remote Races, players will have the ability to control b-spec races from a PC or mobile device through the Gran Turismo 5 website. Which is to say, it’s for those GT5 players who absolutely cannot wait to get home and play the game.
