When Crysis first hit the scene gamers were amazed by the top notch graphics Crytek managed to display. However, back in 2007 the hardware needed to actually run Crysis properly was quite expensive meaning not everyone was able to bask in its glory. Well, not that Crysis 2 is just over the horizon many have wondered what kind of super machine they will need to render the game.

Crytek, for one, has kept quite about this but EA Germany has come forth on Facebook to let us know the minimum requirements for the game which are listed below.

  • OS: XP/Vista/Windows 7
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo at 2Ghz, AMD Athlon 64 x2 2Ghz or better
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 9 GB hard drive space
  • DVD ROM: 8x
  • NVidia 8800GT 512Mb RAM, ATI 3850HD 512Mb RAM graphics card
  • DirectX 9.0c-compatible audio controller
  • Keyboard, mouse, or Microsoft Xbox 360 controller for Windows
  • Internet connection for activation and online mutiplayer

While these specs aren’t too groundbreaking they may prove themselves to be a bit of a problem for gamers running dated rigs. But then again, what better time to upgrade than now?

If you’ve been with us for a few years you’ll probably know that EA Sports has been using their Madden game engine to predict the results of that year’s Super Bowl. Well, now that both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers are in the running for this year’s Super Bowl XLV, EA Sports has whipped out Madden 11 to tell us the results.

According to the simulation the Steelers ousted the Packers in the 4th quarter by a game winning 36 yard pass with a final score of 24 – 20.

Before you start getting skeptical, make note that EA Sports has accurately predicted the results of 6/7 of the last Super Bowls with the only Super Bowl upset being the Giants win over the Patriots 2 years ago.

Below are the 6 accurate predictions as according to ESPN:

• Super Bowl XXXVIII: Patriots 23, Panthers 20 (actual score: Patriots 32, Panthers 29)
• Super Bowl XXXIX: Patriots 47, Eagles 31 (actual score: Patriots 24, Eagles 21)
• Super Bowl XL: Steelers 24, Seahawks 19 (actual score: Steelers 21, Seahawks 10)
• Super Bowl XLI: Colts 38, Bears 27 (actual score: Colts 29, Bears 17)
• Super Bowl XLIII: Steelers 28, Cardinals 24 (actual score: Steelers 27, Cardinals 23)
• Super Bowl XLIV: Saints 35, Colts 31 (actual score: Saints 31, Colts 17)

EA released its financial results today which showed an overall loss of $322 million for the third Quarter, but they also revealed some great news on behalf of Dead Space 2: the horror game has sold 2 million copies in its first week of release, which is a lot better than the original game, which is usually the case with sequels, especially those getting great reviews (read our Dead Space 2 review here). It’s unclear whether the 2 million include the iPhone/iPad and mobile versions of the game.

EA also reported that the company now employs 7,742 people, down from 8,537 last year. They also mentioned that 22 percent of the workforce was in “low cost” areas, which means they’re employed anywhere but in the US.

Nintendo is one of the most iconic gaming companies not just because of their hardware but because of their in-house developed games as well. Video game franchises like Kirby, Zelda and most importantly, Super Mario Bros have become household names. Add the success of these franchises to the success of Nintendo’s consoles like the Wii and DS and you can see why the company gets such good press.

However, with the Nintendo 3DS just around the corner many have wondered what exciting new titles Nintendo will be giving us. Well, if you had any doubt in your mind that Super Mario Bros would be making the jump to 3D, you can now lay those doubts to rest. Shigeru Miyamoto himself came forth today to say the following:

“In the interests of adopting new technology for the Super Mario Bros. tradition, I am now making a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS.”

Seeing how he has went on record as saying he’s currently making the game we’re going to assume that it won’t be a launch title. However Mario in 3D is certainly coming, don’t you worry.

OnLive is an interesting service because instead of featuring a video game console that actually requires physical media (or even locally stored media) it does away with that and streams everything from remote locations. This means if your Internet connection is strong enough you will be able to play a whole slew of different titles in all of their high definition glory instantly with no downloading or heading to your local GameStop.

However, in order to actually play the games you have to buy them either for the life of the service or with a monthly surcharge. Luckily, the company has just outed a new plan dubbed the PlayPack that will run you $9.99 per month. This plan will give you unlimited access to a catalog of 38 different itles including BioShock, NBA2K10, Prince of Persia and much more.

I’ve yet to try the PlayPack plan but I’ve tried OnLive and can definitely vouch for it. Hell, you can ever plug your wired Xbox 360 controller into a spare USB port and you essentially have an Xbox 360. Not to mention the fact that this new PlayPack plan may give mail-order video game rental services like GameFly a run for their money.

Check out the official press release after the break.

Love it or hate it there is no denying the fact that Activision’s latest Call of Duty installment, Black Ops, has been immensely popular. If you’re one who is partial to the game you may remember us telling you how the game’s first map pack, dubbed First Strike, would be dropping on February 1st. Well, here we are on the 1st of the month and the First Strike map pack is in fact available for download in the Xbox Live Marketplace for 1200 Microsoft Points. Of course, PS3 and PC gamers hoping to get down on the fun will be discouraged to hear that the pack will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 for about a month. Bummer.

Anyways, the First Strike map pack includes 4 new multiplayer maps dubbed Discovery, Berlin Wall, Kowloon and Stadium. Also included in the pack, however, is a map made especially for the game’s Zombie mode dubbed Ascension (no, not the Halo map).

Check out the official trailer for the map pack above and let us know what you think in the comments.

One of the surprising PS3 hits, which appeared to come out of nowhere, is Demon Souls, one of the hardest games we’ve ever played on our PS3. The game received notorious status as a difficult game, and it led to some wonderful sales for developer From Software.

The sequel was revealed at least years Tokyo Game Show, but we’ve now gotten an official name: Dark Souls. The game will be published by Namco Bandai, and will be just as difficult according to the developer, only this time, it’ll be out on the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well.
