Nintendo is one of the largest and most iconic video game companies in the world. Not only have they had their fair share of highly successful consoles on the market but they’ve also amassed their fair share of hard hitting video game franchises like Super Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby and much more. Due to the importance of Nintendo among the video gaming community, it would be quite sad to see something like the company’s headquarters be damaged during the recently devastating earthquakes and Tsunami’s in Japan.
Luckily, thanks to Nintendo’s Twitter, we now know that there has been no damage to Nintendo of Japan’s headquarters and that no employees have been injured. Below is said Tweet:
Thanks for your concern! During the earthquake no one at Nintendo in Japan was injured and there was no apparent structural damage.
Now, we just need official confirmation that Satoshi Tajiri, creator of Pokemon, is fine as there were rumors swirling before that suggested he had lost his life during these recently occurring natural disasters.
Crysis 2 is one of the many games that many gamers have been highly anticipated. Created by Crytek, Crysis 2 takes off where the original title left off which has largely been known to be one of the most graphically advanced games of recent memory. Unfortunately, due to the fact that the original Crysis was only released for the PC, it can be argued that the game’s maximum market reach was limited.
Luckily, Crytek is taking Crysis 2 multi-platform with versions for the Xbox 360 and PS3 (along with PC, duh) set to hit the market on March 22nd of this year. If you’ve got an Xbox 360 or PC you probably know that the Crysis 2 demo is already out with a PS3 version coming within the next couple of days. Despite this, you may also be craving for some more content regarding Crysis 2 to hold you over until the 22nd finally rolls around.
Lucky for you, a new trailer has hit the web (included above) entitled ‘Be Fast” which doesn’t do much more than show off some epic Crysis gameplay. Be sure to check it out and let us know what you think and if you’ve tried the demo, let us know what you think of that too.
We all know that after a while even the hardest hitting titles get boring after some time. Luckily, there are enough different great titles to go around that dedicated gamers are treated with minimal downtime – that is, if they can afford continuously buying $60 games. Luckily, found within the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network are several different low cost games that pack a ton of value.
If you’ve got $10 laying around and want a new game to mess around with you may be interested to hear that Battle: Los Angeles (published by Konami) is now available through the Xbox Live Arcade and Valve’s Steam. PS3 owners wondering when they will be able to get their hands on the game will be happy to hear that they won’t have to wait too long as Battle: Los Angeles will be available through the PlayStation Network on March 22nd.
For those not familiar with the game, check out the above video showing off some gameplay and let us know what you think.
Microsoft’s Kinect has managed to pull quite a bit of attention ever since it hit store shelves in November of last year and maintain high sales figures. However, while the technology behind the game controller is quite cool, some may argue that there aren’t any killer games out that utilize the system.
Luckily, one game that many people believe with help the Kinect shine is Rhythm-game Child of Eden which just so happens ot be compatible with Sony’s PlayStation Move as well. If you’re not familiar with this game it basically allows gamers to use their hands to shoot different weapons while progressing through various stages. Don’t understand what I’m talking about? Check out the above video demonstrating some gameplay form E3 – looks amazing.
After checking out the video you’re probably going to wonder when it’s set to hit streets to I’m happy to tell you that Child of Eden was recently announced to be hitting store shelves for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on June 14th of this year.
Just about every console manufacturer in the game has gotten down on motion controlled gaming. Nintendo prett6y much introduce the idea to the mass market with the Wii and Microsoft and Sony followed iwth the Kinect and PlayStation Move.
While the PlayStation Move is similar to the Wii, the Kinect utilizes a camera that is able to recognize a gamer’s body in a 3D space allowing them to utilize their entire body as the controller. Thanks to this, there has been quit ea bit of attention of the Kinect and not as much on the PlayStation 3. It seems that all of the attention has managed to translate into sales numbers as reports suggest that the Kinect managed to sell. Well known analyst Michael Pachter says just 1/5th of PS3 sales included PlayStation Move while 2/3 of 360 sales contained Kinect.
Seeing how the PS3 sold 403,000 units and the Xbox 545,000 in February (where this analysis focuses on) it’s easy to see that the Kinect has outsold the PlayStation Move by a heft margin. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if trends continue or sway towards one of the Kinect’s competitors.
If you’ve been with us for a while you may remember that back in 2009 we told you about a life sized Gundam statue that had gone up in Japan. This Gundam was originally construted to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Gundam franchise and stood epic enough for anyone who has followed the series to be quite amazed. You’ll probably also know that a recent 8.9+-magnitude earthquake went down in Japan that caused a major panic and an unheard of level of destruction.
Well, it seems that a lifesized Gundam and a massive earthquake don’t mix quite well as the giant-robot tribute seems to have been damaged following the earthquake. While this certainly isn’t even a fraction of everything that happened, it just goes to show you how powerful the level of destruction associated with this earthquake was.
EA’s Spore effectively took the world by storm allowing gamers to literally create their own civilization from the ground up. However, the game featured some annoying DRM that gamers have constantly scolded EA for. Well, it seems that EA is at it once again with Darkspore a king of Spore spinoff that is described as fast-paced, sci-fi Action-RPG in which the player battles across alien worlds to save the galaxy from the mutated forces of Darkspore”. Sounds pretty cool, right?
Want to know the bad thing? If you don’t have a constantly active Internet connection you won’t be able to play the game at all – that’s right, not at all. This is part of EA’s new DRM system that they hope will work to curb piracy which is, at least, somewhat admirable. The bad news for EA? Anxious crackers will most likely take it upon themselves to undo this DRM not long after the game is released which is on March 29th for the PC.
To confirm this for yourself, head over to the game’s Steam listing here and check out their online disclosure notice.
If you’re a hardcore gamer you’ve probably heard of Facebook games like Farmville and CityVille before quickly dismissing them. However, what you may not have known is that the company behind such games, Zynga, is worth well over a billion dollars. Due to so many people using Facebook (600 million+), addicting games on the service have been known to do quite well.
Due to this, Insomniac Games, creators of Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, have just come forth to let us know that they will be creating a new studio focusing on mobile and web games dubbed Insomniac Click. Unfortunately, there is no word on exactly what they will be bringing to market with this new studio but we have been able to figure out that they will be bringing both previous EA franchises along with completely new IPs to new platforms.
If you’ve been paying attention you’ll probably know that some clever hackery let lose the algorithm that Microsoft uses to generate new Microsoft Points for use with their Xbox Live services. Due to this scandal, over $1.2 million of Microsoft Points were given out which, even to Microsoft, is enough to cause alarm. While you may feel a bit left out if you didn’t manage to get your fair share of free points it may be better that you didn’t.
Microsoft has just come forth to let us know that they will certainly be taking action against those who have used stolen points and that the matters will be met with “the appropriate enforcement on an individual basis.” While we can’t quite confirm exactly what this means, we’re going to assume that if you stole a little bit of Microsoft Points you will most likely have them taken away and suspended while if you stole a ton of Microsoft Points, you’re probably looking at a ban.
If you’ve turned on the news anytime recently you’ll know that Japan is getting hit quite hard with a series of natural disasters. First, the country was hit by a 8.9+ magnitude earthquake that caused fires, crumbled buildings and caused an unheard of amount of damage. Next, as if that wasn’t enough, a series of tsunamis battered the country taking the lives of many and displacing many more.
While there have been many deaths, there haven’t been much news regarding the names of the folks who lost their lives during these terrible times. However, rumors have just surfaced by way of Twitter that say Satoshi Tajiri, creator of Pokemon, has lost his life during the quake.
Is this to be believed? We hope not, but we’re also not quite sure just yet. According to reports, Nintendo has been contacted to verify or dispute this claim and will get back to us as soon as they know.
