Of all the different video game franchises on the market, it’s quite hard to find one as hard hitting as Pokemon. Not only has the franchise amassed many different video game titles but it’s found its way into everything from major motion pictures to a highly successful trading card game.
If you’re a fan of the series, you may know that the latest Nintendo DS titles, Pokemon Black and Pokemon White, just recently hit the market a few days ago. Well, to no one’s surprise, the games have done quite well for themselves with first game game sales totalling 1.08 million. This beats out the previous record held by Pokemon Pearl and Pokemon Diamond which managed to sell 780,000 units on the first day.
With the Nintendo 3DS just over the horizon, it will be interesting to see what heights Nintendo will take teh Pokemone franchise to next.
To anyone with Pokemon Black or White: how are you liking it? We’d love to know!

Crytek’s Crysis 2 is expected top be one of the biggest shooters of the year continuing where the original title left off as one of the most graphically advanced games we’ve ever seen. However, Crytek will be making the leap from the PC to the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. While the game isn’t set to hit store shelves until March 22nd for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, there has been a demo released for the PC and Xbox 360 with the PS3 version coming on the 15th.
There has been some mixed reviews on the Crysis 2 demo but PC gamers in particular have had some gripes with the demo. Luckily, Crytek has just released a patch that addresses many of the user gripes found in the PC demo. First of all, “Press Start” has been replaced with “Press Enter”, everyone starts with zero ping, numbers are now supported in user names, support for G35 headsets has been added and a few other things.
Thanks to the emergence of online services like the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live gamers are able to download a whole slew of content without ever leaving their couch. Folks who have been paying attention to the media will know that Tiger Woods has come under a bit of fire last year but luckily things seem to be settling down despite his recently poor golfing record. Despite this, EA Sports is going on to make Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters which will hit shelves on March 29th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii.
Die hard fans of the series who just can’t wait a minute longer to get knee deep into The Masters tournament will be happy to hear that a demo for the game is now available to download for the Xbox 360. Check it out and let us know what you think.
CryTek showcased its brand new CryEngine 3 at GDC 2011, and the engine certainly looks pretty sleek, and seemingly does in real time — what takes animators months to do on animated films. However, seeing how Crysis 2 doesn’t manage to look any better that Crysis 1, judging by the demo, we really dunno how to judge the CryEngine 3 demo, apparently what you see isn’t what you get. If Crytek can’t make Crysis 2 look any better than Crysis 1, at least for now, then how can other developer spending $2 million on a CryEngien 3 license do so? The engine is a multiplatform engine, but it has since been revealed that the PS3 version of Crysis 2 runs a resolution lower than 720p.
The two Angelina Jolie-featured Tomb Raider film were kinda lame but still managed to attract the game fans into the theaters, doing decently at the box office, but not good enough to warrant further sequels. Now film production company GK Films and Crystal Dynamics have announced that the film franchise has been rebooted, and the first Tomb Raider film is set for release in 2013.
The first Tomb Raider Film was released almost 10 years ago, and did some $275 million at the worldwide box office. The sequel was released in 2003 and did quite a bit less at the box office: $150 million, which ultimately led to a loss. I guess the only bit of interesting news to figure out is: who’s gonna play the new Tomb Raider?
THQ has announced that their upcoming downloadable Red Faction game, Red Faction Battlegrounds, will be released on the Xbox Live Arcade market place and the PlayStation Store. No price has been announced, but expect it to be within the usual price range of $10 to $15. No news on whether we’ll see the game on the PC anytime soon.
Developed by new THQ studio, THQ Digital Warrington , Red Faction Battlegrounds is a top down action game that supports up to 4 players online and local and focuses on vehicle heavy combat and the familiar destruction we’ve come to know from Red Faction. Judging from the first trailers and screenshots we’ve seen, it looks like it’s one of those titles where you blow a lot of stuff up.
When choosing which console is for you there are many different things to consider the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 all share their distinct differences. Do you want Grade-A online play with Xbox Live, or do you want a built-in Blu-ray player with the PS3? OR do you want some kick-ass exclusives along with included motion support a la the Wii? It can go on and on but when it comes down to it, price is going to be a large decided factor.
Current, the Wii retails for $199 alongside the base Xbox 360 model while the PS3 retails for $299. Those looking to grab an Xbox 360 but want it for even cheaper will be happy to hear that industry analyst Michael Pachter has recently said that he believes Microsoft is gearing up to cut the price tag of their console in June. If this is true, it will surely help Xbox 360 sales a great deal as the console well be more on par with the Wii’s pricing while retaining its high graphical capabilities.
If you don’t have an Xbox 360, would you buy one if it were just $200?
As we’ve told you many times in the past Nintendo has their fare share of hard hitting exclusives – one of them being the Zelda franchise. Originally launching during the days of the NES, Zelda has made it onto just about every one of Nintendo’s consoles and is ready to make the jump to 3D, as well.
Of course, the Nintendo 3DS title won’t be a completely new game instead a 3D port of the ever-so-popular N64 title The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. However, there is something that you should know regarding the release if you’ve only played the original version of Ocarina of Time for the N64.
The Nintendo 3DS version will also include the Master Quest version of the game which increases the level of difficulty associated with some dungeons along with adding some new game content – all in 3D.
Sounds good to us, anyone grabbing a Nintendo 3DS?
