Indie developer Amanita Design, the guys behind the wonderful Machinarium (read our review of the game), has announced that they’re working to get the game to Sony’s PS3 console. The gorgeous looking point and click adventure game was released a few years ago, and has been universally well received among fans and critics. It was originally released on the PC as a downloadable Flash game, then on the Xbox 360. A WiiWare version has been announced as well, but so far we’ve received few details of the Wii port.

Amanita Design says that they’re also looking into porting the game to tablets, which we think would be the obvious choice for a game like Machinarium — it’s gameplay and art style would surely appear to the massive iPad crowd.

Crysis 2 has seen solid reviews since its release (read our Crysis 2 review here), and the game has sold steadily as well, rising to the top of the sales charts i the UK for the week ending March 26. It’s worth noting that 57 percent of Crysis 2 sales were on the Xbox 360, 29 percent on PS3 and just 14 percent on PC. However, the sales tracker doesn’t include digital PC sales of the game, so it’s likely that the number is larger, perhaps at 20 percent. But the huge console sales do show why developer Crytek focused on consoles first with the game, and PC second. It all makes sense now. As for the full sales chart, you can find it below. It’s good to see Homefront is still hanging in there.

  1. Crysis 2
  2. Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars
  3. Homefront
  4. Super Street Fighter 4 3D Edition
  5. Pokemon White Version
  6. Pilotwings Resort
  7. Pokemon Black Version
  8. The Sims: Medieval
  9. Rayman 3D
  10. FIFA 11

Despite being out of production for years, the GameCube still has loyal fans all over the world, and Nintendo’s cube is especially popular among modders, since its small form factor is easy to mod into almost any size, including a portable GameCube.

In the video above, you’ll see modder Jonathan Shine who took 15 months to make a portable GameCube that’s just a bit larger than the original GameBoy, all while retaining full GameCube functionality. It’s made with a 3.5″ LCD Screen and a MadCatz controller, with the GameCUbe system board modded underneath, with 3 microfans and and iPod speakers. Overall, it is somewhat a crude job, but we have to say, we’re still impressed he managed to fit an entire GameCube in there.

Not long after we got done telling you about how popular mobile platforms like Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android have become one of the most popular games from iOS has gotten updated. No, it’s not Rovio’s Angry Birds but it does focus on birds and if you haven’t played it you definitely need to… now. The game I’m talk about of course is Andreas Illigers Tiny Wings.

For those not familiar with this game it’s very simple – the goal of the game is to utilize various hills as ramps to gain speed and fly higher and higher without losing momentum. Sure, it seems simple but priced at 99 cents you can’t really ask for better value.

Anyways, it was just made known that Tiny Wings has gotten an update today that will add support for Apple’s Game Center but also makes the sixth island easier for gamers to get through. Check it out for yourself and let us know how it goes!

The various mobile platforms currently on the market have become so successful that some analysts have said that they will eventually go on to phase out dedicated mobile consoles such as the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. While we’ve yet to see such a thing happen it’s no secret that platforms like Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android are becoming quite popular with hit titles such as Angry Birds.

However, the developers of these platforms aren’t looking to slow their revenue creating abilities just yet. In fact, it was just announced today that Google will be giving Android users the ability to make in-app purchases at some point next week. In other words, if you’re playing a game that requires something like energy that replenishes over time (a la FarmVille, CityVille, etc.) you will soon be able to waste money on refilling that energy bar without ever leaving the app. Oh joy!

While there are many different games released for the various consoles on a daily basis some of them become much more popular than others. A perfect example of this is pretty much every game Activision puts out such as the Call of Duty franchise which has continuously sold like hot cakes. However if you thought that a member of the Call of Duty franchise was the highest grossing game of all time here in the United States you would be wrong – but it is an Activision game.

NPD has just come forth today to give us some insight into the highest grossing video games with none other than Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock topping the charts. According to these reports Guitar Hero III beats out Black Ops with a gross income of $830.9 million while Black Ops clocks in at $787.4 million. Almost a billion dollars revenue from just a single game is certainly no laughing matter.

Of course, that is unless you’re Bobby Kotick!

While there are quite obviously many different ways to purchase physical media many consumers are making the shift towards digital distribution. In fact, just about every home video game console on the market has its own form of digital distribution. For the Xbox 360 it’s Xbox Live, PS3 the PlayStation Network and on the Nintendo Wii ti’s the Virtual Console (among other outlets).

The Virtual Console, in particular has been known to be saturated with many different classic titles that give consumers a chance to relive the fun without breaking the bank. For example, it was just announced today that the Japanese Virtual Console will be getting access to both Mega Man X and Chrono Trigger. Both of these games were made available on the Super Nintendo in the 90s and have gone down as iconic titles.

Unfortunately, there is currently no word on whether or not Nintendo plans to bring these games to the North American Virtual Console but considering they are such highly popular games we’re going to assume that us here int he States will see them soon.

Street Fighter is one of the most iconic fighting game franchises on the market today with many different iterations. Currently, the most recently available version of the game is Super Street Fighter IV out now for the Xbox 360 and PS3. However, there is another version coming out soon that is set exclusively for use within arcades appropriately dubbed Super Street Fighter IV Arcade. Included in this game are a few new characters including Yun and Yang from Street Fighter 3 in addition to Evil Ryu and Oni.

While there are no plans to release the game commercially here int he United States diehard Street Fighter fans may be interested to hear about it. The latest information we’ve been able to uncover about the game is a screen shot of Evil Ryu. As you can see, it’s quite obviously an evil version of Ryu – largely considered to be the face of Street Fighter.

Let’s hope Capcom gets around to releasing this version of Street Fighter for home consoles here in the US.

There is certainly no drought when it comes to racing games as many different companies have pushed out their own offerings. However, when it comes to an ultra realistic experience there are a few at the top of the pack including Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport. But, EA is also looking to make a name for themselves in the sector with their Need for Speed: Shift franchise. While the original title has been on the market for quite some time the company is gearing up to launch the second entry into the franchise dubbed Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed.

In fact, if you weren’t aware, Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed is set to hit store shelves for the Xbox 360, PS 3 and PC on March 29th which is just a few days away from this posting. Seeing how the launch is so soon it’s no surprise that EA has come forth to release the launch trailer for Shift 2 Unleashed which we’ve included above for your viewing pleasure.
