Minecraft has taken the world by storm as one of the most successful independently developed games to ever hit the scene. Starting off being developed by just a single coder, the game has now spawned a company dubbed Majong Specifications and over 1.6 million purchases have been made. However, what many people may not know is that Minecraft is still in beta meaning there is still quite a bit of room to grow.
Today a future update has been made known by way of YouTube video which shows off wolves. These wolves have some unique behaviors such as sitting down when presented with a piece of meat and will even attack another animal (such as a cow) when you do so first. There’s no word if these wolves will attack mobs for you but if so they will add a whole new weapon to your arsenal.

Warner Bros Interactive and its studios, which include Rocksteady Studios (developers of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman Arkham City) and NetherRealm Studios (developers of Mortal Kombat), have struck a deal with Epic Games for an Unreal Engine 3 license to all their games through 2014. Why 2014? Well, that’s apparently when Unreal Engine 4 will be released, and UE4 will only be available for next generation consoles. That’s good to know. It’s also good to know that the next Batman game (after Akrham City), will most likely be a lot prettier than the current one.
Epic recently revealed an updated version of the engine at GDC, which blew everyone’s mind. You can check that sweet video here.
Steam is running a weekend deal for DarkSiders, which is 75% off and for this weekend only, will retail for just $10. The Volition developed and THQ published DarkSiders was originally released last Summer to little fanfare, but it was still well received title among gaming critics — our own review gave it an 8 out of 10, and praised its stylish visuals, varied combat and great puzzles and dungeons. If that sounds like it might interest you, you should definitely consider Darksiders, especially for the low price of just $10 bucks.
Sony has delayed the North American release of MotorStorm Apocalypse indefinitely due to the tsunami disaster in Japan. The launch had been previously delayed in the UK, and of course, in Japan, which itself is dealing with an apocalypse of sort, with thousands dead, hundreds of billions in damages, and several nuclear reactors that are in dangerous states right now.
We can certainly understand the delay of MotorStorm Apocalypse, as the game is set in a city devastated by earthquakes — not the most interesting setting these days, considering the disaster in Japan. Sony has yet to set a new date for the game, but we expect a few months delay, with a release this Summer. The game was originally scheduled for release on April 12, 2011.
One of the go-to guys when it comes to soundtracks in Hollywood is Hans Zimmer, who has scored well over a hundred feature films, and a few video games as well. While he didn’t do all of the soundtrack for the upcoming Crysis 2, he did score the impressive opening title/theme of the game, which you can hear above — personally, we love it.
The full Crysis 2 soundtrack will be released next week, and will of course include Zimmer’s track, in addition to the full soundtrack, done by Borislav Slavov and Tilman Sillescu. The game hits the store shelves (and digital downloads) on March 20.
Valve has landed some great videogame talent in the form of Doug Church, who was the lead designer on some of the most memorable sci-fi games: Deux Ex and System Shock. In addition to those titles, he also worked on Thief and Tomb Raider Legend.
Chruch latest work was on the canceled EA game “Project LMNO”, which was the famous Steven Spielberg production, which sadly never reached advanced production stages beside a few demos (which in an of themselves were impressive). We’re sure Doug will a great job at Valve, maybe he can speed up the development of Half Life 2: Episode 3 while he’s there. God knows we’ve been wanting to play that game for years.
In this market largely dominated by hard hitting FPS titles like Call of Duty and Halo it’s hard for brand new franchises to break onto the scene. However, released yesterday was THQ’s Homefront which has been gaining quite a bit of critical acclaim from critics across the board some positive and some negative. However, seeing how it’s not, well, a Call of Duty game many wondered if it will be able to hold its own and translate this positive reception into sales numbers.
Lucky for THQ it seems that the game has managed to do quite will for themselves with the announcement being made today that Homefront has managed to sell 375,000 units on day one. THQ President and CEO Brian Farrell comments:
“We are delighted with first day sales for Homefront and are already fulfilling re-orders for the game from multiple retailers.”
If you’ve been paying attention to pretty much anything you’ll probably have heard of Antoine Dodson. This average person turned Internet superstar was caught voicing his opinion of a criminal who broke into his house and attempted to harass his sister. Soon after the serious situation was turned into a sarcastic one when his news interview was remixed into the hit song ‘Bed Intruder’.
Well here we are nearly a year later and the hype has somewhat died down but it seems that it’s about to get a jump start. According to recent reports, ‘Bed Intruder’ will be making its way to the Rock Band Network sometime in the near future. Unfortunately this has yet to be confirmed by anyone official involved with the song but a video has hit YouTube of ‘Bed Intruder’ being played through with Rock Band 3.
While there are many different titles available through normal retail outlets put out by big name publishers, various digital distribution services house many different high quality independently developed video game titles. One such title is Hothead Games’ Swarm. This puzzler allows you to control a group of creatures who you can carry our your biddings in a sort of Pikmin-esque style.
If you were wondering when you can get your hands on Swarm you don’t have to wonder any more as it has been announced that the game will be made available on the PlayStation Network come March 30th while the Xbox Live Arcade will be getting it on March 23rd. Check out the above gameplay video and let us know what you think.
If you’ve ever played a game of Halo or Call of Duty online you’ll know the deal – get killed by a screaming 12 year old and then proceed to watch your body get teabagged. Sure, this is a fun way to grind your opponents gears but Zipper Interactive will be introducing a whole new way to do the deed in the form of victory dances. That’s right, SOCOM 4 will include 3 different victory dances that can be initiated over a dead body by pressing the Circle button.
Included dances are “The Chicken”, “The Robot” and “The Crane” which you can check out in the above video.
While this doesn’t really add to the overall gameplay it will definitely add a nice an innovative element to the game that is sure to see a lot of use online.
SOCOM 4 will be out exclusively for the PlayStation 3 on April 19th of this year.
